After clinically dying for more than 30 minutes, Randy Kay says his encounter with Jesus forever transformed his understanding of eternity—and launched a mission to confront what he believes are misleading narratives surrounding near-death experiences.
Speaking with Sid Roth on It’s Supernatural!, Kay recounted how a devastating medical crisis in 2005 led to what he describes as a face-to-face encounter with Christ in heaven.
Kay said he suffered pulmonary embolisms caused by blood clotting throughout his body after contracting MRSA, eventually flatlining for “30 minutes and 49 seconds.”
Despite the severity of the event—including an aneurysm—Kay said he survived without lasting brain damage.
“It was God’s doing,” Kay said. “That’s the only thing I can attribute it to is God’s healing power.”
According to Kay, the experience not only changed his life but also redirected his purpose. He says God commissioned him with a specific assignment: “Take back the narrative.”

Kay explained that many modern near-death testimonies promote universalism, reincarnation and spiritual ideas disconnected from biblical Christianity. He believes God called him to share testimonies centered on Jesus Christ and the reality of heaven and hell.
“The space has been dominated by these who testify of what is not the biblical God of Jesus Christ,” Kay said.
Years after initially keeping his own story private, Kay eventually began publicly sharing his testimony and collecting others’ accounts for his book, Heaven Encounters: 140 Near-Death Experiences Revealing the Afterlife. Drawing from his background leading pharmaceutical and biotech companies, Kay said he applied rigorous validation standards to the testimonies included in the book.
Yet for Kay, the most unforgettable aspect of heaven was not scenery or grandeur—it was Jesus Himself.
“The first time I looked into His eyes, I knew consummate love, the person of love,” Kay said. “And the first thought I had was, ‘So this is love.’”
Kay described heaven as completely permeated by the love of God.
“Heaven is about the Lord God,” he said. “Without God there is no heaven.”

At one point in the interview, Kay issued a direct appeal for viewers to surrender their lives to Christ.
“He is real. Heaven is real. And yes, hell is real,” Kay said. “God doesn’t want anyone to go there.”
Kay also shared how many people featured in his research—including atheists, Muslims, Hindus and Buddhists—claimed to encounter Jesus during near-death experiences.
“The greatest news the world has ever known is that Jesus came back from heaven off His throne so that He would walk toward the cross as the Lamb of God,” Kay said.
As conversations surrounding the afterlife continue to grow in popular culture, testimonies like Kay’s are drawing renewed attention to eternity, salvation and the person of Jesus Christ.
These accounts serve as sobering reminders that the gospel is not merely symbolic or philosophical—it is a matter of eternal life and death. Scripture repeatedly points to Jesus as “the way, the truth and the life” (John 14:6), and Kay’s testimony ultimately echoes that same message: heaven is real, Christ is alive, and now is the time to surrender fully to Him.
