Does Earth Need Saving?

Do you believe that the planet needs to be saved and that severe action must be taken immediately? Many people are convinced that the change in weather is due primarily to the population using what they refer to as “destructive sources of energy.” Is that true? Will the planet really be destroyed if we don’t take drastic measures? It’s arrogant to suggest that God needs our help in saving the Earth. We can look to the Bible to settle this highly controversial issue. There are actually 10 things the Bible reveals on this topic.

1. God is the one who will burn up the earth with fervent heat (2 Pet. 3:10). It will not be due to excessive population or man’s use of certain energy sources. It is mankind’s sin that is causing the Earth’s birth pains including serious weather changes. The Bible clearly lists the sins that contribute to disasters and severe weather:

— A broken covenant (God commands us to obey His Word).

— The shedding of innocent blood.

— Worshipping idols.

— Sexual sin.

— No fear of God.

It’s interesting that our sin is directly connected to the Earth itself. Because we were made from the dust of the Earth, our sin has a direct effect upon the planet. It’s true God has given the Earth to man, but it is similar to a person who owns a house and then leases it to someone. He is still the owner, and He will sustain it.

2. God said the Earth remains forever. He will destroy it by fire in the end but then refurbish it (Gen. 8:22; Eccl. 1:4; Psalms 46:6, 78:69, 119:90; 2 Pet. 3:10).

3. God created the Earth and formed it. It didn’t evolve over billions of years. It’s not Mother Nature who governs Earth but Father God, who created it in six days (Ps. 90:2, 115:15, 134:3; Prov. 3:19; Isa. 45:18; Jer. 10:12).

4. He is King of all the Earth, not any person in power who wants to control it and all the people who dwell upon it. God sets up kings and pulls them down when He wills (Ps. 47:2, 7; 83:18; Dan. 2:21; Acts 17:24).

5. God has said He owns the Earth. Since He is the rightful owner, He is well able to keep it functioning (Gen. 14:19, 22; Ps. 24:1; 1 Cor. 10:26).

6. He commanded the oceans to keep their place. The ice caps will not melt away, causing the oceans to flood the earth and kill all of mankind. Overall, normal weather cycles will continue because God is in control of them.

Genesis 8:22 (ESV) says, “While the earth remains, seedtime and harvest, cold and heat, winter and summer, and day and night shall not cease.” Genesis 9:11, Psalms 74:17, Psalms 104:9, Proverbs 8:29 and Job 38:11 all confirm this.

7. He created humans and placed them on Earth. Since He is the one who did this, He can easily remove them as well (Gen. 19:13-14; Ps. 104:29, 119:119; Acts 17:25).

8. The Earth will be shaken. In fact, the shaking has already started. We see the Earth’s birth pains are increasing with intensity and frequency (Job 38:13; Ps. 18:7; Isa. 13:13; Matt. 24:29; Mark 13:25; Luke 21:26; Rev. 6:13). God is shaking nations, governments and people in every sphere of society during these last days.

9. The meek shall inherit the Earth. The meek are those who are humble, who pray, who are kind-hearted and acknowledge the one true God of the Bible, according to the Scriptures (Ps. 34:1-2, 35:13, 37:9, 11:22; Matt. 5:5).

10. Jesus Christ will return as King to rule and reign on the Earth. If you don’t willingly bow your knee to Him now, you most certainly will later (Ps. 146:10; Isa. 34:23, 45:23; Luke 1:33; Rom. 14:11; Rev. 11:15).

It would be wise to concern yourself less with the Earth being burned up and more with yourself burning up with those who are deceived. Don’t worship the planet, but instead, worship God. He will keep the Earth going. Your part is to know God, worship and obey Him, and be certain your name is written in God’s book of life.
