A sold-out concert was an hour away when Christian rapper Hulvey drew a firm line: He would not bring children into a venue displaying pornographic images.
The artist canceled his Oct. 16 performance in Amsterdam after discovering sexually explicit images and objects inside the concert space. He said his team sought to have the material covered before deciding the show could not proceed.
“I stand for Jesus only. If that cost me a show, who cares? Who cares, ’cause I answer to Him,” Hulvey told fans waiting outside, according to ChurchLeaders.
Strong ticket sales had prompted organizers to move the performance to Club Annie, across from Melkweg’s regular entrance, Amsterdam broadcaster AT5 reported. Hulvey said his team had not been informed about the explicit displays. The organizer’s event listing confirms the concert’s location and that tickets were sold out.
The concern was immediate. Young fans had already arrived for the preshow activities, and more families were waiting to enter.
“I was meeting seven-year-old fans at the meet-and-greet, and there were tons of kids outside,” Hulvey said in a social media video, according to Crosswalk.
According to Hulvey, venue staff would cover one side of the bar but refused to cover the images on the walls. With children’s exposure to the material still unresolved, he called off the performance.
Hulvey then stepped outside to explain the decision to concertgoers waiting in the rain. He apologized and prayed with them, thanking God for purity and forgiveness. Fans responded with support.

Melkweg told AT5 it respected his decision and declined further comment. Dutch lawmaker Don Ceder offered to help find another location, while Rapzilla reported additional offers from churches and venues.
As his team worked to reschedule, Hulvey said the response had reached beyond his original expectations.
“God took a canceled show and ended up making it way more than I could have imagined,” he said, according to Rapzilla.
