Residents across Nevada and parts of California felt a series of earthquakes Wednesday morning as a swarm of tremors struck near Carson City, sending shockwaves across hundreds of miles.
As reported by the Daily Mail, at least four notable quakes ranging from magnitude 2.6 to 4.8 were recorded near Silver Springs, Nevada, with dozens of smaller tremors detected in the same window of activity.
The shaking reached far beyond the epicenter. The U.S. Geological Survey said movement was felt as far west as areas outside Sacramento, California, with one resident noting they felt shaking in Colfax, about 140 miles away.
Locals described the intensity in real time. “Our house shook pretty good. It lasted longer than most do,” one resident shared. Another added, “Here in Yerington, it felt stronger than the last.” A separate post captured the ongoing concern: “It’s the same area that’s been rocking us the past week. It’s not stopping; I fear volcanic activity.”

The region sits within the Basin and Range Province and the Walker Lane seismic zone, where the Earth’s crust is actively stretching, creating frequent fault movement and earthquakes. Officials noted that while volcanic features exist in the area, they are considered dormant and not an immediate threat.
The swarm began around 10:22 a.m. PT with a 3.5 magnitude quake, followed by additional tremors minutes later, including the strongest 4.8 magnitude event that triggered widespread reports of shaking.
Earthquakes and the signs of the times
Jesus Christ warned that earthquakes would mark the beginning of birth pains leading up to His return. In Matthew 24:7, He said, “there will be famines, pestilences and earthquakes in various places.”
We are watching these events unfold with increasing frequency and intensity. They rise, ease and return again, forming a pattern Scripture already laid out.
We are called to stay rooted in Jesus Christ, building our lives on the Rock and not on shifting ground. We remain in His Word, walk in obedience and seek to be filled daily with the Holy Spirit so we are not caught off guard.
We stay discerning. We measure what is happening in the world against what Scripture says, knowing deception will increase. We do not respond in fear. We stand firm in faith, anchored in truth, prepared for what lies ahead.
