An extraordinary discovery off the coast of Taiwan is adding another piece to what scientists know about humanity’s ancient past — and it should have Christians paying attention.
Researchers identified two massive leg bones recovered from the seafloor of the Penghu Channel between Taiwan and mainland China as belonging to Denisovans, an extinct human population related to Neanderthals.
According to the Daily Mail, protein analysis connected a partial thigh bone and shin bone to the Denisovan lineage. Researchers estimated one individual stood roughly 5 feet 11 inches and weighed 183 pounds, while another may have reached 6 feet 3 inches and 201 pounds.
The University of Tokyo-led research team said its findings demonstrate that Denisovans in the region “had larger body size” than earlier Homo erectus and Late Pleistocene Homo sapiens in eastern Asia.
Independent researcher Jimmy Corsetti immediately noticed the biblical implications.
“Were Denisovans the ‘Nephilim Giants’ described in the Bible?” Corsetti wrote on X, according to the Daily Mail. “Btw, the discovered bones were found on the SEAFLOOR! Gee, almost as if a Great Flood actually happened… (it did, regardless if these bones are of an unrelated timeframe).”
The Bible Already Told Us Giants Existed
Scripture does not treat giants as mythology.
Genesis 6:4 describes the Nephilim in the days preceding the Flood. Numbers 13:33 mentions them again. Other Old Testament passages describe extraordinarily large people, including the Rephaim and Anakim.
The New Testament also looks backward to supernatural rebellion surrounding the ancient world. Jude 6 describes angels who “did not keep their proper domain,” while 2 Peter 2:4 speaks of angels who sinned and were cast into judgment. These passages directly connect to the writings of Genesis 6.
That does not prove Denisovans were Nephilim. It does mean Christians should stop acting as though biblical accounts of the ancient world must be embarrassed away whenever modern science encounters something unexpected.

Knowledge Is Increasing
Daniel 12:4 says that in the time of the end, “knowledge shall increase.” Our generation is unquestionably uncovering extraordinary knowledge about both the future and the ancient past.
Jesus also warned that the period surrounding His return would resemble “the days of Noah” (Matt. 24:37). The words of the Messiah, invoking Noah’s generation, should drive us back to Genesis and to everything Scripture records about that age.
Meanwhile, Paul warned of a coming “strong delusion” connected with the lawless one and humanity’s rejection of truth in 2 Thessalonians 2.
That makes biblical discernment increasingly important.
Not every archaeological discovery proves every proposed biblical connection. We should not force the evidence. But neither should we dismiss Scripture because its ancient world sounds too supernatural for modern sensibilities.
The Bible has been telling us for thousands of years that our ancient past was stranger than many wanted to believe. As knowledge increases and Christ’s return draws nearer, we need to know what Scripture actually says.
It is time for us to pay attention.
