Sadie Robertson Huff is opening up about one of the most terrifying seasons her family has ever endured—and the miracles she believes carried them through it.
On a recent episode of her podcast with husband, Christian Huff, Robertson Huff shared the emotional story of how their 9-month-old daughter, Kit, suffered two life-threatening choking incidents that ultimately revealed a severe airway condition doctors had previously believed was mild.
“We really were tossed in the water,” she said. “We really did go through the fire… but we didn’t go under. God always provided exactly what we needed at the right time.”
The ordeal began during a family beach trip in April. While sitting in her high chair, eating puffs and tiny pieces of chicken, Kit suddenly stopped responding.
“She completely went purple,” Robertson Huff recounted. “She immediately just went completely limp.”
Starting CPR, the young mother instinctively began chest compressions and mouth-to-mouth resuscitation while crying out to God.
“I kept saying, ‘God, You’re good. God, You’re going to give her life,’” she said.

Moments later, Kit began coughing and regained consciousness before paramedics arrived.
At first, doctors believed the incident was a tragic choking accident. But just weeks later, a second terrifying episode occurred while Kit was eating smoothie melts and avocado at home with friends. Once again, she turned purple and went limp.
That second event changed everything.
“We knew this is something different,” Christian Huff said. “She’s not just choking. Something is wrong.”
Doctors eventually connected the incidents to severe laryngomalacia, a condition affecting Kit’s airway that had previously gone undetected in its severity. Swallow studies revealed that food and liquid were entering her airway, creating a dangerous risk for aspiration and blockage.
Robertson Huff said the family saw God’s hand throughout every moment of the crisis—from getting an unexpected appointment with a specialist to receiving encouragement from strangers and friends who had walked through similar situations.
One particularly emotional moment came when neighbors at the beach house revealed their Ring camera had captured the moment Robertson Huff performed CPR on Kit outside on the porch.
“They said they have wept over the video because it impacted their faith so much,” she shared.
The family later traveled to Baton Rouge, where Kit underwent successful surgery to correct the severe airway issue. The difference was immediate.
“Her breathing was immediately silent,” Robertson Huff said. “She was doing really great.”
Looking back now, the couple says the season strengthened—not shattered—their faith.
“When you experience the miracle, you’re like, ‘God, I cannot deny the evidence that You’re here, that You’re faithful,’” Robertson Huff said.
Though the journey was filled with trauma, fear and uncertainty, the Huffs say they now carry a renewed confidence in God’s provision.
“The God we’re reading about in the Bible is the God that we serve,” Robertson Huff declared.
