As artificial intelligence continues its rapid march forward, one of the world’s leading AI executives is making a declaration that sounds more like science fiction than Silicon Valley.
According to a report from Business Insider, OpenAI CEO Sam Altman believes humanity has already crossed into what technologists have long called “the singularity”—the point at which artificial intelligence begins fundamentally transforming civilization in ways that are difficult to predict.
Speaking on the Relentless podcast, Altman argued that the singularity is no longer a future milestone but a present reality. “We are now in the singularity,” he said, according to Business Insider, describing this moment as a historic turning point in human history.
The singularity has traditionally been understood as the point at which artificial intelligence surpasses human intelligence and begins to improve itself at an accelerating pace, triggering technological change beyond humanity’s ability to fully comprehend or control.
Altman believes that the process is already underway.
Business Insider reported that Altman said AI is advancing faster than many expected and predicted it would increasingly take over knowledge-based work, estimating that AI could eventually perform 30% to 40% of many jobs currently done by humans.
Despite these developments, Altman remains optimistic about AI’s future. According to Business Insider, he believes the technology has the potential to unlock extraordinary scientific discoveries, improve quality of life and usher in unprecedented prosperity if developed responsibly.

Not everyone in the industry agrees with his assessment.
According to Business Insider, Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang has pushed back on claims that humanity has already entered the singularity, suggesting such declarations are premature. The publication also noted that experts remain divided over whether today’s AI systems truly meet the traditional definition of the singularity, with some arguing that artificial intelligence has not yet reached the level of recursive self-improvement long associated with the concept.
Business Insider also reported that Altman criticized competitor Anthropic for what he views as an overly catastrophic approach to AI risk, arguing that conversations surrounding artificial intelligence should acknowledge both its dangers and its immense potential.
Regardless of where one falls in the debate, there is little disagreement that artificial intelligence is reshaping nearly every area of modern life at breathtaking speed. From medicine and education to warfare, finance and media, AI is increasingly becoming woven into the fabric of everyday society.
These developments invite more than technological curiosity—they call for spiritual discernment.
While Scripture does not specifically predict artificial intelligence, it repeatedly warns of an age in which knowledge would increase and deception would become more pervasive. Daniel 12:4 prophesies that “many shall run to and fro, and knowledge shall increase,” a passage many believers have viewed as foreshadowing an unprecedented acceleration of human advancement in the last days. Jesus likewise warned in Matthew 24 that deception would intensify before His return, while the apostle Paul described a future generation marked by widespread rebellion against God (2 Thess. 2).
As artificial intelligence becomes increasingly sophisticated, Christians are called to embrace wisdom without surrendering discernment. Every technological breakthrough should ultimately be measured against the truth of God’s Word rather than the promises of human innovation.
As artificial intelligence continues to transform the world, we should remain both informed and spiritually alert. Technology may reshape civilization, but it can never replace the wisdom, truth and eternal hope found in Jesus Christ. As Jesus Himself warned, “Take heed that no one deceives you” (Matt. 24:4).
