Evangelist Benny Hinn is urging believers to move beyond spiritual infancy and pursue lasting maturity in Christ, warning that a failure to grow in God’s Word leaves Christians vulnerable to deception, instability and discouragement.
In a recent teaching titled To Him Who Hears, More Will Be Given, Hinn centered his message on Hebrews 5 and 6, emphasizing that spiritual growth is not optional for the believer—it is God’s desire for every follower of Jesus.
“Growing in Jesus is the most wonderful, most joyful experience of our lives,” Hinn said. “Getting to know Him, but also growing in Him. Growth as believers is so, so important.”
Drawing from Hebrews 5:12-14, Hinn outlined several biblical signs of spiritual immaturity. Among the first, he said, is continually returning to the same foundational issues instead of progressing in faith.
He described believers who repeatedly struggle with the same sins and continually question whether God has truly forgiven them, explaining that such patterns often stem from condemnation rather than confidence in God’s promises.
“You cannot grow then,” Hinn said. “You’re always living in condemnation. It’s impossible to grow in the Lord that way. What you need to do is get to know the Lord through His Word and believe it. Don’t depend on your emotions. Believe what God says.”
Hinn also pointed to another mark of maturity: the ability to encourage and teach others from Scripture. Christians who are continually dependent on “milk” rather than “solid food,” he said, often remain unskilled in applying God’s Word to prayer, spiritual warfare and everyday life.
To cultivate a deeper understanding, Hinn encouraged believers not simply to read large portions of Scripture but to meditate on the thoughts and themes within each passage.

“Never read chapters,” he advised. “Read thoughts.”
According to Hinn, one of the greatest dangers facing spiritually immature believers is a lack of discernment. Citing Hebrews 5:14, 2 Peter 2 and Ephesians 4, he warned that Christians who are not firmly grounded in Scripture can easily be swept away by false doctrine or popular teachings that sound biblical but ultimately lead people away from Christ.
“We need to know the Word of God,” Hinn said. “If you cannot discern good and evil, people can be led astray so easily.”
He also expressed concern that some churches have shifted their focus away from faithfully teaching Scripture, saying some congregations now spend more time discussing politics than proclaiming God’s Word.
“Let’s keep our focus on Jesus, please,” Hinn urged. “Let’s keep our focus on His Word.”
Near the conclusion of his message, Hinn turned to Jesus’ Parable of the Sower in Luke 8, emphasizing that the Lord’s concern was not merely that the seed be scattered but that it be received by hearts prepared to bear lasting fruit.
Quoting Jesus’ instruction, “Take heed how you hear,” Hinn challenged believers to examine the condition of their own hearts. He concluded by praying the words of Psalm 139:23-24, asking God to search His people, reveal anything hindering their spiritual growth and lead them “in the way everlasting.”
For Hinn, the message is clear: spiritual maturity is cultivated through a receptive heart, a deep love for God’s Word and a lifelong commitment to growing in the knowledge of Christ. As believers continue to hear, receive and obey His voice, we position ourselves for the promise Jesus declared: “To him who hears, more will be given.”
