God’s Love Does Not Cancel His Holiness
God’s love is one of the most celebrated truths in Scripture. But according to pastor Isaiah Saldivar, many Christians have become so focused on God’s love that they rarely stop to consider what the Bible says He hates.
In a recent livestream teaching on Proverbs 6:16-19, Saldivar reminded believers that “the same Bible that tells us God is love also tells us the things that God hates.”
“We have to preach the whole counsel of God,” he said. “The same Bible that tells us God is love also tells us the things that God hates.”
Saldivar emphasized that God’s hatred of sin is not rooted in cruelty but in His holy nature.
“A holy God has to hate the things that destroy the people He loves,” he said.
Rather than allowing culture to redefine sin, Saldivar urged Christians to return to Scripture as the standard for holy living.
“The standards haven’t changed,” he said. “God is still holy.”
Pray for Personal Conviction
Before walking through the seven abominations listed in Proverbs, Saldivar challenged us to examine our own hearts instead of focusing on everyone else’s failures.
He pointed to Psalm 139:23 as the proper response: “‘Search me,’ not my wife, not my husband, not my friend. ‘God, search me.'”
“Open your heart. Humble yourself,” he said. “Whatever God wants to reveal, whatever God wants to speak to us, God wants to heal us.”
Saldivar stressed that the goal is not condemnation but transformation.
“Jesus died to make you like Him,” he said. “Every sin I’m discussing, God can forgive you. God can wash you. God can cleanse you. But you’ve got to understand that this is a serious thing.”

The Seven Things God Hates
After laying that foundation, Saldivar unpacked the seven attitudes and actions Proverbs says are “an abomination” to God, explaining that many begin long before outward sin is visible.
1. A Proud Look
Saldivar called pride the root that often produces every other sin because it places self above God.
“Pride says, ‘I know better than God. I don’t need to repent. I don’t need anyone telling me what to do.'”
He warned that pride isn’t limited to arrogance. It also appears in refusing correction, constantly seeking recognition, blaming others and living independently of God.
“The person with pride is usually the last person to recognize it,” he said.
2. A Lying Tongue
Because God is truth, Saldivar said dishonesty reflects the character of Satan rather than Christ.
He explained that lying includes more than outright falsehoods. It also includes exaggeration, half-truths, manipulation, broken promises and presenting ourselves as more spiritual than we really are.
“Small lies are still lies,” he said. “There are no white lies.”
3. Hands That Shed Innocent Blood
Saldivar said every human life carries value because people are created in the image of God.
He connected this warning not only to murder but also to hatred and violence, emphasizing that God hears the cry of innocent blood.
“God values human life,” he said. “Human life is not cheap. It’s not disposable.”
4. A Heart That Devises Wicked Plans
Rather than addressing only sinful actions, Saldivar said God also judges the deliberate planning behind them.
Whether it is manipulation, revenge, fraud or sexual immorality, he warned that hidden intentions matter to God.
“God says, ‘I see the plan before the action,'” Saldivar said.
5. Feet That Are Swift to Run to Evil
Saldivar contrasted people who accidentally stumble into temptation with those who eagerly pursue sinful environments.
“You’re not falling into temptation,” he said. “You’re pursuing sin.”
Instead of asking how close we can get to sin, he encouraged us to pursue God’s presence and, like Joseph, flee temptation.
6. A False Witness Who Speaks Lies
While similar to a lying tongue, Saldivar explained this sin specifically targets another person’s reputation through false accusations, slander and rumors.
“A person’s reputation takes decades to build and one false accusation could ruin it forever,” he said.
7. One Who Sows Discord Among Brothers
Saldivar concluded by pointing to unity as something God deeply values within the body of Christ.
He warned against gossip, suspicion and unnecessary division among believers, noting that Jesus Himself prayed for unity before going to the cross.
“God loves unity,” Saldivar said. “God hates when people split and divide His body.”
He closed by reminding us that every one of these sins can be forgiven through Christ, but Proverbs makes clear they should never be treated lightly. Instead, they should drive us to repentance, humility and a renewed desire to honor the Lord in both our hearts and our actions.
