Are we witnessing the generation Jesus described in Bible prophecy?
That was the question Pastor John Hagee explored in a recent sermon outlining what he believes are 10 prophetic signs pointing toward Christ’s return.
Drawing from Daniel, Matthew, Revelation and the Old Testament prophets, Hagee argued that current world events align with Scripture in remarkable ways. While Christians should never predict the day or hour of Christ’s return, Hagee said Jesus commanded us to recognize the season.
1. A Knowledge Explosion
Hagee pointed to Daniel’s prophecy that “knowledge shall be greatly increased” and said modern technology fulfills it.
“Our generation is the generation that has experienced the knowledge explosion,” he said. But he warned, “Knowledge without God only produces an intellectual barbarian.”
2. Nuclear Warfare
Hagee said nuclear weapons help explain prophetic passages that once puzzled Bible readers.
“The second prophetic sign that we are a new terminal generation is the birth of nuclear warfare,” he said, arguing Scripture describes destruction similar to modern nuclear weapons.
3. Israel Reborn
Hagee called Israel’s rebirth in 1948 “the most dramatic prophetic sign of the 20th century.”
“When you see Israel born as a nation… you shall know that my coming is even at the door,” he said, citing Jesus’ teaching about the fig tree in Matthew 24.
4. Hebrew Restored
The revival of Hebrew after centuries of disuse also fulfills prophecy, Hagee said.
“A hundred years ago, the Hebrew language was as dead as Julius Caesar. … God was inspired to revive that dead language.”
5. The Jewish People Regathered
Hagee connected the return of Jewish people from around the world—especially Russia—to Jeremiah’s prophecy.
“God allowed communism to collapse… to give the Jewish people trapped behind the Iron Curtain the chance to return to Israel.”

6. Jerusalem Returned to Israel
The reunification of Jerusalem in 1967 marked another prophetic milestone.
“When Jerusalem was no longer under Gentile rule… that is a cardinal indicator. The King of Kings and the Lord of Lords is on His way.”
7. Global Technology and the Gospel
Hagee said satellite television and worldwide communications now make Revelation’s prophecies understandable while allowing the Gospel to reach every nation.
“This gospel of the kingdom shall be preached in all the earth… and then the end shall come.”
8. Worldwide Deception
Jesus warned deception would define the last days, Hagee said.
“America is living in deception, deep deception… We need to start looking to this Book to give us the truth.”
9. Pestilence and Earthquakes
Hagee pointed to pandemics and increasing natural disasters as additional prophetic signs.
“Several years ago, people mocked this prophetic sign… and then came COVID. God’s Book is never wrong.”
10. As the Days of Noah
Jesus compared the last days to Noah’s generation, Hagee noted.
“When you see these signs… lift up your head and rejoice. Your redemption draweth nigh.”
Why These Signs Matter
Hagee said prophecy is not intended to produce fear but expectancy. We cannot know the exact day Christ will return, but we can recognize the season.
“No man knows the day nor the hour… But we can know when His coming is very near.”
He concluded with Jesus’ words of encouragement to all believers: “Lift up your head and rejoice. Your redemption draweth nigh.”
