What if one of the darkest mysteries in the book of Revelation did not remain buried in the ancient world?
Jonathan Cahn says an object tied to the biblical location of “Satan’s throne” may hold a stunning key to understanding some of the darkest events of modern history, and perhaps what is still to come.
During an appearance on Sid Roth’s “It’s Supernatural!,” Cahn unpacked the mystery at the heart of his latest book, The Altar of Pergamon: The Mystery of the Dark Angel and the Future of the World, calling it a “colossal mystery” stretching from the ancient world into Nazi Germany, communism, the Cold War and end-times prophecy.
The trail begins in Revelation.
Speaking of the ancient city of Pergamum, Revelation 2:13 contains the chilling phrase, “where Satan’s throne is.” Cahn connects that passage to Pergamon’s massive great altar, which was dedicated to Zeus.

But the altar did not remain in the ruins of the ancient city.
German archaeologists excavated it, and its remains eventually made their way to Berlin. Cahn points to a startling convergence: Germany unified in 1871, during which the altar was being rediscovered; excavation began in 1878; and the reconstructed altar emerged in Berlin in 1889—the same year Adolf Hitler was born.
And the connections only get darker.
Cahn says the massive platform architect Albert Speer designed for Hitler’s Nazi rallies at Nuremberg was modeled after the Pergamon Altar.
“So now Hitler is standing on the throne of Satan,” Cahn said.
Cahn believes the mystery continued even after Hitler’s downfall.
As Nazi Germany collapsed, Soviet Red Army forces took possession of the altar. Cahn points to what happened next: The Soviet Union emerged as a global superpower while communist control swept across Eastern Europe and eventually reached enormous portions of the world.
“You follow the altar, you follow history,” Cahn said.

Then comes perhaps one of the most unnerving pieces of the mystery: nuclear war.
Cahn connects the altar to Berlin’s central role in the Cold War and, eventually, to the Cuban Missile Crisis. The Soviet placement of nuclear missiles in Cuba came in response, in part, to American Jupiter missiles stationed in Turkey.
Cahn points out that those missiles stood on territory once associated with ancient Pergamon, and their name, Jupiter, was the Roman name for Zeus, the very god honored by the Pergamon Altar.
These connections are not merely strange historical coincidences. Cahn sees a spiritual battle operating behind the rise and fall of earthly powers.
And his most ominous warning may concern what comes next.
Cahn says the Pergamon mystery is connected not only to history but also to a modern American president, the internet, a coming world power and end-times prophecy.
“It’s not just about what was,” Cahn said. “It’s what is and what is yet to come.”
If Cahn’s prophetic trail is only beginning to unfold, then the ancient warning about “Satan’s throne” may be far more relevant to our generation than anyone imagined.
