Jonathan Cahn is sounding the alarm about an ancient mystery he believes has followed some of the darkest events in modern history—and may ultimately point toward what is still to come.
In a conversation with Daniel Adams, Cahn unpacked the mystery behind the Altar of Pergamon, an ancient structure he connects to the “throne of Satan” referenced in Revelation 2.
“This mystery is behind everything from the rise of Hitler and the Nazis to both world wars, to communism, the rise of Marxism, to the Cold War, to nuclear destruction, to the future, to end-time prophecy, to the new world order,” Cahn said.
Cahn explained that the massive altar of Zeus once stood in ancient Pergamon before it fell into ruins. Centuries later, German archaeologists excavated the structure, transported its remains to Germany and reconstructed it in Berlin.
Cahn believes what happened afterward reveals a disturbing spiritual pattern.
He pointed to the rise of Adolf Hitler, noting that Hitler was born in 1889, the same year Cahn says the altar was being reconstructed. Later, when Hitler commissioned architect Albert Speer to design the massive grandstand at the Nazi Party rally grounds in Nuremberg, Cahn said Speer modeled its design after the Pergamon Altar.

“So Hitler, when you see Hitler going crazy, he’s on the throne of Satan,” Cahn said. “He’s standing on the throne of Satan as he invokes it.”
Yet perhaps one of the most striking moments of the conversation came when Adams revealed his own supernatural experience in Berlin.
Adams said he traveled there to conduct a revival without knowing Pergamon’s history.
“I had no idea about any of this history. Not about the Altar of Pergamon. I had no idea about anything,” Adams recalled.
That changed after a startling dream.
“I’m chasing this demon through this dream,” Adams said. After cornering the entity, Adams said he demanded its identity “in the mighty name of Jesus Christ.”
According to Adams, the response was chilling: “I am a demon from Babylon.”

After waking, Adams began researching and discovered that Berlin was also home to the reconstructed Ishtar Gate from ancient Babylon, housed in the same museum complex as the Pergamon Museum.
“That demon was letting me know this is the principality that has come into Berlin,” Adams said. “The demonic principality that was over Babylon is now in Berlin, Germany.”
Cahn told Adams he was stunned by the account because Adams had encountered the subject from an entirely different direction without previously knowing the historical connections.
For Cahn, however, the mystery isn’t simply about looking backward.
He believes the spiritual battle continues today and that Christians must recognize what is happening around them.
“We are in a war,” Cahn said. “If you’re in a war and you don’t realize you’re in a war, you’re not going to do well.”
But Cahn’s message is not one of fear.
He pointed believers back to the authority of Christ, the Word of God and the victory described in Revelation.
“Take the Bible at full strength,” Cahn urged. “Take the Word in full power. Take the authority God has given you to overcome in your life.”
Ultimately, the darkness surrounding Pergamon is not where Cahn wants Christians to fix their eyes.
“You are on the winning side,” he said. “You’ve got the answer. You’ve got the gospel.”
His final charge was simple: “Stand. Go full blast. Go all out for God. Spread the gospel, and you’re going to win.”
