As tensions involving President Donald Trump, Iran, NATO and Israel continue to reshape the global order, prophecy teachers Mondo Gonzales and Mike Spaulding believe Christians should be paying close attention—not with fear, but with biblical discernment.
During a powerful interview, the two men examined the political instability unfolding across the Middle East and Europe, arguing that today’s headlines may be preparing the way for developments long described in Scripture.
One of their central concerns was Trump’s changing rhetoric toward Iran.
Spaulding questioned why Trump has appeared open to negotiations with Iranian leaders at one moment, only to describe them as irrational and evil shortly afterward.
“Who’s talking to him?” Spaulding asked. “That’s what I’d like to know.”
Gonzales suggested Trump may have underestimated the ideological and religious motivations driving Iran’s leadership.
“Have they not communicated to him about the nature of radical Islam or even Middle Eastern history?” Gonzales said. “For him to change, you think, ‘Is he just now waking up?’”
Gonzales argued that Western assumptions about prosperity and economic opportunity do not necessarily apply to Iran’s radical rulers. He said Trump may believe that financial incentives can bring Iran into greater cooperation with the West, but the Iranian regime’s worldview is rooted in something far deeper than economics.
The conversation then shifted to NATO and Europe’s increasing military independence.
Trump has repeatedly criticized NATO members for failing to meet their share of defense spending, but Gonzales believes a reduced American role could have an unintended consequence: a stronger, more unified European military structure.
“When you remove the United States, I think it’s going to end up in the long run strengthening NATO because of its independence from the U.S.,” Gonzales said.
That possibility immediately raised prophetic questions.
Gonzales pointed to Europe’s renewed defense spending, Germany’s military expansion and the potential weakening of NATO’s relationship with America as developments that could contribute to a future European-centered power structure.
“Does that bring up a lot of questions as it relates to the future army of the Antichrist?” Gonzales asked. “Is Trump, in his own way, hastening that development? It seems like it—not that he knows it, but prophetically speaking.”

Spaulding agreed that the political realignment could help create the conditions for the rise of future rulers who will ultimately serve the beast system described in Revelation.
Israel’s growing determination to become militarily independent from the United States was another major focus.
Gonzales said Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu understands that American support can change with every administration. Israel, he noted, cannot afford to place its survival entirely in the hands of shifting political alliances.
“At the end of the day, we know this from Ezekiel 38, that they will be alone except for the God of Israel, who will rescue them,” Gonzales said.
Yet both men emphasized that prophecy should never drive believers into panic or obsession.
Spaulding warned that biblical prophecy is meant to point Christians toward the return of Christ and fill them with hope.
“We’re not given to discouragement,” he said. “We’re given to hope. We’re given to joy—a joy that this world and its circumstances cannot rob us of.”
The message for the church is clear: Watch the headlines, understand the times and remain grounded in Scripture. But above all, keep your eyes fixed on Jesus Christ.
