A Texas jury has found Karmelo Anthony guilty of murder in the fatal stabbing of fellow student Austin Metcalf, bringing a measure of legal closure to a case that has captivated the nation and left two families forever changed.
According to Fox News, jurors convicted Anthony in the April 2025 killing of Metcalf, who was stabbed at a high school track meet in Frisco, Texas. The jury sided with the prosecution and found Anthony guilty of murder, sentencing him to 35 years in prison.

According to Fox News, Austin’s twin brother, Hunter, spoke directly to Anthony and said, “You let the devil take over you in the moment.”
The words spoken by Austin’s brother point to a reality that extends beyond the courtroom. Scripture teaches that humanity is engaged in a spiritual battle that seeks to destroy lives and families.
In a matter of moments, Austin Metcalf’s future was taken away. His family now carries the pain of an empty seat at every holiday, birthday and family gathering. At the same time, Anthony faces the reality of spending much of his adult life behind bars.
As believers reflect on this tragedy, they should be prompted to pray for everyone affected. Pray for the Metcalf family as they continue to grieve the loss of Austin. Pray for the Anthony family as they face the consequences of the verdict. And pray for a generation increasingly surrounded by anger, violence and division to encounter the hope, healing and transformation that can only be found in Jesus Christ.
