Two pilots flying over Ohio encountered something they couldn’t explain, and what they discovered after contacting air traffic control only made the situation more unusual.
According to the National UFO Reporting Center, the pilots were flying a private charter jet near Tiffin, Ohio, on Aug. 16 when they spotted a massive, silver, pill-shaped object appearing to emerge from a thunderstorm.
As the Daily Mail reported, the encounter has gained attention after the pilots captured an image of the unidentified object.
At the time, the aircraft was traveling at about 41,000 feet, while the mysterious object appeared to be flying at about 43,000 feet. The pilots estimated that it stood at least 30 feet tall.
“The surface was silver and highly reflective, like pure polished metal,” one of the pilots, identified only as “J,” told NUFORC investigator Ben Hansen.
The object reportedly had no visible wings, engines or other features typically associated with an aircraft. While the pilots considered whether it could have been a weather balloon, its appearance and apparent movement left them uncertain.
The pilots then contacted Cleveland Center to see if air traffic control could identify anything else flying in the area.

However, controllers reportedly had no corresponding radar contact. The pilots’ own collision-avoidance system also showed no indication of another aircraft nearby.
One of the pilots managed to photograph the object after it passed their aircraft.
Following the incident, Hansen obtained Federal Aviation Administration radar data and air traffic control recordings through a Freedom of Information Act request. According to NUFORC, the investigation found no matching radar return or planned balloon launch that could account for the sighting.
Luke 21:11 reminds us that there will be fearful sights and great signs from heaven. That does not mean every unexplained object has prophetic significance, but it reminds us why Christians must approach the extraordinary with both discernment and a firm foundation in God’s Word.
Whatever these pilots witnessed remains unexplained, and the search for answers continues.
