Abigail Spanberger ascended to power through classic deception, cloaking herself in the guise of moderation while concealing her true radical agenda. She campaigned as a centrist, but her actions reveal her as a committed leftist ideologue intent on transforming the Commonwealth into a progressive stronghold.
In one of her earliest symbolic acts after taking office, Spanberger’s administration has elevated an Islamist aligned figure to statewide leadership; Lt. Gov. Ghazala Hashmi, the first Muslim woman elected to statewide office in the United States, who took her oath of office with her hand placed on the Quran, not the Word of God, the Bible. This is a direct affront to the God this nation was founded upon and the very fathers of our nation, many of whom hailed from Virginia, men like George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, James Madison, and Patrick Henry, whose Christian faith and biblical principles shaped the founding documents and the very soul of America.
By choosing the Quran over the Bible for this historic oath, Hashmi’s inauguration enabled and celebrated under Spanberger’s watch signals a deliberate rejection of Virginia’s Judeo-Christian heritage in favor of far-left, identity-driven multiculturalism that erodes the foundational values of our Republic.
Now, Spanberger is aggressively pushing her left-leaning legislature to enact draconian gun control measures. The assault weapons ban and high-capacity magazine restrictions already passed by the General Assembly and awaiting her signature would criminalize millions of law-abiding Virginians overnight. By banning the sale, transfer, manufacture and import of entire classes of commonly owned firearms, this legislation strips Second Amendment rights from responsible gun owners, turning everyday citizens into felons for possessing tools of self-defense they legally acquired.
This is no moderate course correction, it’s a full-throated assault on individual liberties, driven by far-left extremism. Spanberger’s “moderate” mask has slipped, exposing the radical threat she poses to Virginia’s freedoms, security, Second Amendment rights, and Christian-founded way of life. Virginians must recognize the danger before it’s too late.
Yet this echos the very tactics of Satan himself. He wants you disarmed.
The Enemy’s Ancient Strategy
The tactics of our adversary, Satan, are not new. They are as old as the Scriptures themselves, vividly illustrated in Israel’s oppression under the Philistines (1 Samuel 13:19–22). During this dark period, a demonically inspired enemy systematically disarmed God’s people: “Now there was no blacksmith to be found throughout all the land of Israel, for the Philistines said, ‘Lest the Hebrews make themselves swords or spears’’ (1 Samuel 13:19, ESV).
The Philistines understood a fundamental principle of warfare: a disarmed enemy is a defeated enemy. By removing the blacksmiths, they stripped Israel of the ability to forge weapons, leaving the them defenseless and unable to overthrow their oppressors. The result was a nation under domination, living in fear and subjugation, unable to rise up and claim the freedom God intended for them.
This strategy is a timeless tactic employed by oppressors throughout history in both the natural and spiritual realms. Despots and tyrants have consistently consolidated power by stripping their people of the means to resist.

Idi Amin in Uganda outlawed private gun ownership to secure his iron-fisted rule. Adolf Hitler forced Germans to surrender their weapons, ensuring the Nazi regime faced no armed opposition. Stalin and Lenin banned firearms in Soviet Russia, paving the way for decades of totalitarian control. Pol Pot, the genocidal leader of the Khmer Rouge, outlawed private firearm possession, leaving millions defenseless before his campaign of terror. Time and again, history reveals the same pattern: oppressive regimes rise by disarming the populace—because a disarmed population is an easily conquered population.
This principle was powerfully illustrated in the aftermath of World War II. When the Japanese Admiral Isorosku Yamamotowas asked why his forces did not attempt a ground invasion of the United States—even after Pearl Harbor had left America reeling—his response was telling. The greatest deterrent, he said, was the simple reality that millions of Americans privately owned firearms. His exact quote translates, “You cannot invade the mainland United States. There would be a rifle behind every blade of grass.” The prospect of facing an armed, untamable population in a guerilla war was deemed unwinnable. This historical reality underscores an enduring truth: readiness and resistance remain the strongest defenses against tyranny.
In the spiritual realm, the devil employs this same strategy against the church. Through his fallen minions, he whispers lies of doubt, fear, and inadequacy, seeking to convince believers that the fight is too hard, the enemy too strong, and their efforts too futile. His aim is simple: to disarm us spiritually. When Christians lay down their weapons; prayer, the Word of God, faith and the authority of Christ they become vulnerable to his onslaught of affliction, temptation and despair.
Just as the Philistines stripped Israel of its blacksmiths, leaving them unable to forge swords or spears, Satan seeks to strip the church of its spiritual vitality, leaving it ineffective in the battle for souls and the advancement of God’s kingdom. But let us remember the warning of James 4:7: “Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you”(ESV). Resistance requires readiness—and readiness requires weapons.
We must resist being disarmed in both the natural and spiritual. If you want to lean more about these forces at work and how you can walk in power over them, be sure to get my newest book ‘Defeating Darkness: A Handbook For Spiritual Warfare & Overcoming Demonic Schemes.’
