The tragic story of Beau Shroyer, a devoted missionary whose life was taken in a shocking murder-for-hire plot in Angola, has left many grappling with grief, disbelief and sorrow. Now, as reported to The Christian Post, his wife, Jackie Shroyer, has been formally charged in connection with his murder.

Troy M. Easton, lead pastor of the Lakes Area Vineyard Church in Detroit Lakes, Minnesota, where the couple worshipped before moving to Africa, shared the heartbreaking update with the congregation. “It saddens me immensely to have to share with you that we were notified that Jackie has been formally charged as a co-author in the murder of her husband,” Easton stated. The weight of this revelation is difficult to bear, especially for the faithful who supported their missionary journey.

Investigators allege that Jackie Shroyer conspired with three men, including Bernardino Elias, a former security guard, who was reportedly involved in a romantic relationship with her. According to authorities, Jackie initially asked Elias to carry out the murder, promising him a substantial sum of money. Elias then recruited two additional men, Isalino Kayoo and Gelson Ramos, to assist in the execution of the crime.

On Oct. 25, 2023, Beau Shroyer was lured to a remote area under the pretense of giving his wife a driving lesson. It was there that he was ambushed and fatally stabbed inside his vehicle in the Palanca commune on the outskirts of Humpata, Huíla Province. The crime was staged to appear as a robbery, with the perpetrators receiving payment for their roles in the scheme. Reports indicate that Jackie Shroyer provided an initial payment of $400, with a promise of $50,000 upon completion of the act.

This devastating loss has left the Shroyer family reeling, with their five children now facing an unimaginable reality. As believers, we must turn to prayer, seeking justice while also praying for those left to pick up the pieces. In moments like these, our response must reflect the heart of Christ—mourning with those who mourn while upholding the truth. Pastor Easton reminded the congregation to “cling to the Lord and His unchanging character, nature and love” and to pray “for truth to be clear, for justice to be served and for God’s kingdom to come and will to be done.”
