What if discovering God’s will for your life has less to do with figuring out your future and more to do with how you’re living for Him right now?

That’s the powerful message Sadie Robertson Huff is sharing with Christians who are struggling to understand their purpose, make major life decisions or determine what God is calling them to do next.

During a conversation on the Bryce Crawford podcast, the “Duck Dynasty” star and Christian speaker challenged the idea that following God’s will means having every detail of the future figured out.

“One of the most common questions I get asked is, ‘Well, what’s God’s will for my life?'” Robertson Huff said. “I want to encourage you by saying, you don’t and you won’t,” referring to the expectation that believers must know exactly what their futures will look like.

Instead, Robertson Huff pointed to the greatest commandments Jesus gave His followers.

“I think God’s will for our life is what Jesus said when he summed up the whole lot of this. Love the Lord your God with all your heart, soul, mind, and strength. Love your neighbor as yourself,” she explained.

For Robertson Huff, understanding God’s will isn’t necessarily about choosing the perfect career, attending a particular college or reaching a specific milestone. It’s about honoring the Lord wherever He has placed you.

“Whatever I do, I’m going to do for the glory of God and not for man. And I’m going to love God in it. And I’m going to love people in it,” she said.

She also reminded believers that God’s purposes are greater than the unexpected circumstances that can completely change the direction of someone’s life. Pointing to the disruptions of the COVID-19 pandemic, Robertson Huff explained that losing a job or having plans fall apart doesn’t mean someone has somehow missed God’s will.

“Your purpose has to be bigger than something that can just be taken away,” she said. “Has to be something that can remain in every season.”

That perspective has taken on even deeper meaning for Robertson Huff following a frightening season involving her youngest daughter, Kit.

As Charisma previously reported, Robertson Huff and her husband, Christian, faced a terrifying medical emergency when their daughter experienced serious choking and breathing complications that eventually required surgery.

The family had initially shared the frightening ordeal as a testimony of God’s faithfulness, describing how Robertson Huff performed CPR after Kit stopped breathing.

During the podcast conversation, Robertson Huff reflected on how the ordeal challenged her faith and required her to depend on God in ways she never had before.

“I have never had to have this much dependency on the Lord as I have in this season of my life,” she admitted.

Even while navigating those difficult circumstances, Robertson Huff continued to receive opportunities to preach and share the gospel. She explained that the experience strengthened her conviction that God’s goodness doesn’t disappear when life becomes painful or uncertain.

“God is good even when life is hard,” she said. “He’s present and near even when you don’t understand circumstances.”

And for Christians afraid of making the wrong decision, Robertson Huff offered another reminder: God can redirect their steps.

“I think God is so good at redirecting,” she said. “If your heart posture is to honor the Lord and to follow him, you can’t mess it up.”

Her encouragement ultimately comes down to a simple but profound truth. Following God’s will isn’t about controlling every outcome or having all the answers before taking the next step. It’s about surrendering to Him, loving others and remaining faithful through every season.

“What do you love to do? What do you feel passionate about doing? Do it for the glory of God,” Robertson Huff said.

For believers waiting on God to reveal what’s next, the most important question may not be what the future holds, but whether they’re faithfully following the One who holds it.
