Jacob lay down to sleep and discovered a gateway to heaven. Moses turned toward a burning bush and heard God call his name. An ordinary moment became an encounter that changed everything.

Pastor Troy Brewer is urging Christians to pay attention. The Holy Spirit is at work, and the next opportunity to respond could come in the middle of a familiar routine.

In his message, “Sacred Space and Divine Time,” part of “The Voice of a Vow” series, Brewer challenges Christians to recognize God’s direction and step forward in obedience.

“It’s one thing for God Almighty to promise he’s going to do something,” Brewer said. “It’s another thing for you to be there in the right place at the right time for the right miracle to happen.”

Wake Up to What God Is Doing

Brewer points to Jacob’s encounter in Genesis 28. Jacob stopped for the night without recognizing the significance of the place. Then God revealed His presence and reaffirmed His covenant promises.

Describing Jacob’s realization, Brewer put it this way: “Heaven invades earth in this place, and I just thought it was a place to lay down.”

That possibility brings urgency to daily life. A conversation we rush through could become an opportunity to minister. An interruption could put us beside someone who needs help.

“If you want to know what you’re supposed to do today, you’re going to have to know the day that you’re living in,” Brewer said.

Drawing on the sons of Issachar, who understood their times, Brewer urges Christians to cultivate spiritual discernment through watchfulness and prayer. Recognizing God’s direction requires a willingness to respond.

Take the Step God Gives You

Obedience often begins before the outcome becomes clear.

“Sometimes God Almighty will just tell you just to go somewhere and you don’t even know why he tells you to go there,” Brewer said.

His encouragement centers on faithfulness. We can answer God’s call without knowing every person we will encounter or every result that will follow.

“You’re somebody that God can count on to be at the right place at the right time,” he said.

That gives weight to the places we already occupy. Our homes and workplaces hold opportunities to obey God. Showing up with a heart surrendered to the Holy Spirit matters, even when nobody applauds and the results remain unseen.

Bring Expectation Into the Everyday

Brewer brings the message into a grocery store checkout line, where frustration can consume our attention while someone nearby needs compassion.

“You can rant all you want, you can be mad all you want, or you can be present in the Holy Ghost,” he said.

He describes opportunities to pay for someone’s groceries or begin a conversation about Jesus. Ordinary errands can become occasions to minister as Christians respond to the Holy Spirit.

Citing 1 Corinthians 6:19, Brewer emphasizes that our bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit. His closing encouragement gives even an overlooked Christian reason to walk into the day with expectation.

“Anywhere you show up, God can show up and you have no idea how important you are.”

Pray for sensitivity to the Holy Spirit. Let Scripture guide your steps, then act when an opportunity to serve opens before you. Someone you encounter today needs the hope of Jesus, and God can work through your willingness to stop and care.
