Hundreds of schools are closed across France as thousands of people have taken to the streets to demand education reform.

According to Fox News, more than 6,000 people have been taken into custody since the protests first began in September. At least 715 police officers and 215 teens have been injured in the riots.

President Trump commented on the development, noting that the protests stem from mass migration. “What’s happening in France is nothing less than out of control mass migration,” he wrote on Truth Social. “This isn’t about schools, this is about Islam wanting to take over a once great Country!”

According to reports, the Iranian foreign ministry has summoned France’s ambassador over what it claimed to be “violent treatment” of students.

Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmail Baghaei “accused Paris of applying double standards on human rights, pointing to French criticism of Tehran’s brutal crackdown on nationwide protests in January and calling on French authorities to respect peaceful assembly and exercise restraint toward demonstrators,” Iran International reports.

Education Minister Édouard Geffray said that from the beginning of the protests, “ultra-violent elements infiltrated the high-school student movements,” the BBC quoted Geffray as saying.

i24 News reported over the weekend that Saint-Denis, Aubervilliers, and Pantin were centers of unrest. The areas have large migrant populations.

A December 2025 report from the Focus on Western Islamism shared that a survey from the French Institute of Opinion Polls (IFOP) concluded that many young French Muslims prefer Sharia over state laws and value Islamic culture, such as veil-wearing and a refusal to shake hands with the opposite sex. The report notes that 38% of Muslims endorse radical Islam, and 33% of Muslims identify with at least one Islamic movement.
