Pastor Robert Jeffress delivered a direct warning at the Republican Midterm Convention: America’s deepest conflict is not between political parties, but between good and evil.
“Ladies and gentlemen, we are in a war,” Jeffress said during his Sept. 10 speech. “This is not a war that I’m talking about between Iran and America. It’s not the war between Democrats and Republicans.”
Jeffress said the struggles unfolding across the country are connected to the cosmic conflict described by the apostle Paul in Ephesians 6.
“For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but it’s against the unseen forces of wickedness in the heavenly places,” he said.
Jeffress cautioned against assuming every Republican is righteous and every Democrat is sinful. Quoting Russian dissident Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn, he said the line separating good and evil does not run through political parties. It runs through every human heart.
“The fact is all of us are sinners,” Jeffress said. “We all need the forgiveness that Jesus Christ came to offer for us.”

When Political Movements Advocate Sin
Jeffress then drew a distinction between individuals who fall into sin and political movements that actively promote it.
“There’s a difference between falling into sin and being an advocate for sin, an advocate for evil,” he said. “And ladies and gentlemen, the Democrat Party are advocates for evil. They are advocates for sin. And we need to call it that way.”
Jeffress pointed to the protection of unborn life, God’s creation of humanity as male and female and the government’s responsibility to defend the nation as truths written on the human heart.
“To argue against those truths is the essence of evil,” he said.
Jeffress then focused on Democratic U.S. Senate candidate James Talarico, contrasting Talarico’s beliefs about gender, Jesus and other religions with the teachings of Scripture.
“James Talarico believes that all religions are equally valid and are simply different truths or different paths up the same mountain of truth,” Jeffress said. “But Jesus Christ disagrees with James Talarico.”
He cited Christ’s words in John 14:6: “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No man comes to the Father but by Me.”
Jeffress called Talarico’s beliefs “blasphemous” and “evil,” declaring that no true Christian should support them.
He closed by recalling Abraham Lincoln’s observation that the important question is not whether God is on our side, but whether we are on God’s side.
“God is never on the side of evil,” Jeffress said. “And if we want God’s continued blessings on our United States of America, it is imperative that on November the 3rd, we vote for God’s side.”
