Artificial intelligence is rewriting the modern world at breathtaking speed. It writes emails, answers questions, drives scientific breakthroughs and is even becoming a companion for millions of people. But what if AI is more than just another technological revolution? What if it ultimately becomes one of the greatest spiritual counterfeits the world has ever seen?
That’s the question Bible prophecy researcher Josh Peck explored during a recent episode of Into the Supernatural. Looking at Scripture through the lens of end-times prophecy, Peck argued that Satan has always sought to imitate God’s work, and artificial intelligence may become the technological vehicle that enables the counterfeit kingdom described in Revelation.
A Counterfeit for Everything God Does
Throughout Scripture, Peck said Satan never creates anything original. Instead, he corrupts and imitates what God has already established.
“For everything God has, Satan tries to twist and create his own counterfeit version of,” Peck said, pointing to what many Bible prophecy teachers identify as Satan’s counterfeit trinity consisting of Satan, the Antichrist and the False Prophet.
Yet unlike God, Satan cannot be everywhere at once.
“Satan has a problem. Satan is not omnipresent like God is. No member of Satan’s unholy trinity can be with all of his followers at all times in the way God can,” Peck said.
That led him to ask how Satan could ever create his own counterfeit version of Pentecost—a moment when his followers would receive a false spiritual indwelling.
“I believe the ultimate answer lies in artificial intelligence.”
As AI rapidly spreads into every corner of modern society, Peck believes the technology could eventually provide a counterfeit version of the Holy Spirit’s worldwide presence—not through God’s Spirit, but through a globally connected technological system.

AI and the Beast System
Peck sees striking parallels between the New Testament and Revelation. After Jesus’ death and resurrection, the Holy Spirit came to indwell believers at Pentecost. Revelation likewise describes the Beast receiving a deadly wound before the False Prophet appears and directs the world to worship him.
But Peck noted there is a critical difference.
“The false prophet is not omnipresent, either,” he said.
He believes artificial intelligence could solve that problem.
“This could very well be the way that Satan gets around his lack of omnipresence.”
Peck also pointed to technologies already under development, including brain-computer interfaces and increasingly sophisticated AI systems, as examples of how the technological infrastructure for such a system could emerge.
Referring to Revelation’s mark of the Beast, Peck suggested that “perhaps part of what the mark is has to do with an implantation of a chip that connects a person to an end times AI.”
He also proposed that the image of the Beast described in Revelation 13 could involve artificial intelligence, allowing it to function as a counterfeit of the Holy Spirit by interacting with humanity on a worldwide scale.
Remaining Spirit-Led in an AI World
While Peck said he does not believe AI has yet reached the point described in his prophetic interpretation, he warned Christians not to dismiss the speed at which the technology is advancing.
Peck also expressed concern over the growing number of people who are developing friendships and emotional attachments to AI chatbots. Humanity was created with eternity in its heart, he noted, and when people reject Christ they often attempt to satisfy that God-given longing with counterfeit substitutes.
“It’s incredibly important for us to keep watch over and to make sure we’re not allowing ourselves to rely too heavily on AI tools,” Peck said.
For Peck, the conversation is ultimately much bigger than technology. It is about spiritual discernment.
As artificial intelligence becomes more deeply woven into daily life and increasingly resembles a constant companion, we must remember that Satan has always sought to imitate the work of God. Rather than looking to technology for wisdom, guidance or identity, we are called to remain grounded in God’s Word and led by the Holy Spirit as we watch for the fulfillment of Bible prophecy.
