Pastor Greg Laurie is sounding a biblical warning about the spiritual realities described in Revelation, arguing that the Bible reveals a future period when evil will be unleashed on the earth in unprecedented ways.
In a recent teaching on Revelation, Laurie said the Tribulation period is when God allows humanity to experience the full consequences of rejecting His authority and moral boundaries.
“The devil has gone down to you. He’s filled with fury. Why? Because he knows his time is short,” Laurie said, pointing to Revelation 12:12.
According to Laurie, Satan understands biblical prophecy and knows that his ultimate defeat is coming. Rather than repenting, however, he seeks to cause as much destruction as possible before Christ returns.
“He wants to do as much damage as he can until Christ comes back,” Laurie said.
Laurie compared the judgments described in Revelation to the plagues God sent upon Egypt during the days of Moses. Just as God confronted Egypt’s false gods through specific judgments, Laurie believes the Tribulation demonstrates what happens when humanity persistently rejects God’s ways.
“God’s effectively saying to humanity, all right, is this what you want? Thy will be done. I’m giving it to you,” he explained.
The message centered on the fifth trumpet judgment in Revelation 9, in which a fallen star opens the bottomless pit and releases terrifying beings upon the earth. Laurie identified the fallen star as Satan, noting that Scripture often uses stars symbolically to represent angels.
While some have attempted to explain the locust-like creatures of Revelation as military weapons or literal insects, Laurie believes they are demonic entities released from a supernatural prison.
“These are supernatural soldiers from the kingdom of darkness,” he said. “This is an invasion of demons in the last days that are very aggressive.”

Laurie also addressed the origin of Satan, emphasizing that God did not create the devil as an evil being.
“The God of love did not create the devil as we know him,” Laurie said, explaining that Lucifer was originally a powerful angel who rebelled against God through his own free will.
Yet amid the warnings about spiritual warfare, Laurie stressed that Christians should not live in fear. While demons are real and active, he repeatedly emphasized that Satan’s power is limited and subject to God’s authority.
“Though powerful, demons have clear limitations,” Laurie said.
He pointed to Jesus’ words to Peter as evidence that believers remain under God’s protection, even when facing spiritual attacks.
The ultimate lesson of Revelation is not to become fascinated with darkness but to remain focused on Christ. As evil intensifies in the last days, he believes believers should remember that Satan’s rage is itself evidence that his defeat is drawing near.
