The Democratic National Committee is once again drawing outrage after one of its members claimed that the modern political doctrine of diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) is the very principle upon which the church of Jesus Christ was built.
During the DNC’s annual summer meeting in Minneapolis, Minnesota, former Tennessee state senator Bill Owen told the Resolutions Committee, “These are American values. This is what America was built on.” He then went further, stating, “And to my Republican friends and fellow citizens who profess to be active Christians, I remind them that DEI is the very foundation of the Christian Church.”

As reported by The Christian Post, Owen became emotional while defending the resolution, even quoting a children’s Sunday school chorus: “Jesus loves little children, all the children of the world. Red and yellow, black and white.” The resolution in favor of DEI passed unanimously.
But such statements fly in the face of both history and Scripture. The Christian church was not founded on political ideologies, but on Christ Himself, as the apostle Paul wrote: “For no other foundation can anyone lay than that which is laid, which is Jesus Christ” (1 Cor. 3:11). Jesus declared, “I will build My church, and the gates of Hades shall not prevail against it” (Matt. 16:18).

To equate DEI with the cornerstone of the church is to replace Jesus with man-made philosophies, something the Bible strongly warns against.
The DNC has a long track record of distancing itself from biblical truth. In 2012, the party removed all mention of God and Jerusalem from its official platform, prompting boos from delegates when a vote was taken to restore the language. By openly rejecting God and His covenant city, the party aligned itself against His Word. And Scripture makes clear there is no middle ground: “He who is not with Me is against Me” (Matt. 12:30).
While Owen sought to rebuke conservative Christians for opposing DEI, the Bible teaches that truth is not determined by political resolutions or popular applause. Isaiah 5:20 warns, “Woe to those who call evil good, and good evil; who put darkness for light, and light for darkness.”
For decades, the DNC has championed policies in direct opposition to God’s design for life, family and morality. To then turn and invoke Jesus’ name to justify their agenda is the very definition of hypocrisy.

God is not a respecter of politics or parties. He alone sets the standard of righteousness, and His Word does not bend to human ideologies. When a political party consistently positions itself against His ways, any attempt to lecture Christians on what the church should stand for is an insult to both God and His people.
