Earlier this year, hip-hop superstar Kanye West told fans he planned to run for president in 2020, inspired in part by President-Elect Donald Trump.
He shocked an audience at a concert in California on Thursday by telling them that while he didn’t vote in last week’s election, had he done so, he would have voted for Trump. The liberal mainstream media is already trying to portray the statement as a publicity stunt.
“I told y’all I didn’t vote, right?” he said. “But if I would have voted, I would have voted on Trump.
“This is about the idea of a black guy liking Trump. [The Democrats] thought they had me because—just because I was black or just because I was a celebrity. But Trump is our president. And that would’ve been my vote, so I feel right.”
The statement drew a chorus of boos from his confused fans, but the mainstream media may be even more distraught. They continue to trumpet the false narrative that Trump is a racist.
As the Washington Post reported:
To many of his fans, then, it likely seemed strange that he suddenly proffered public support for a man who has in the past several months garnered headlines in national media such as “Donald Trump Is a Racist,” “Here Are 13 Examples Of Donald Trump Being Racist” and, here in The Washington Post, “Donald Trump is a bigot and a racist.”
