Violence Aimed at Kids

A study by the Federal Trade Commission released suggests that video game marketers and movie studios don’t take seriously the entertainment industry’s own self-regulation when it comes to keeping kids away from mature material.

Video games with an M rating (deemed too violent or sexual for preteens and young teens) are often advertised in magazines with young readers and on TV shows with young viewers.

The study also reportedly found that content codes are poorly enforced. So if your young teen wants to see the new R-rated sexploitation flick, chances are he’ll get into a showing. Or if a grade school kid attempted to rent an overly graphic video game, most likely he’ll be blasting away on Nintendo when you get home. All the more reason for dads to take an active part in their kids’ lives. Nothing’s better at protecting a young adult’s heart from the insensitivity of culture than his own Christ-centered value system.
