Jonathan Cahn is sounding the alarm about the spiritual darkness he believes is gaining ground in America. But his warning goes far beyond costumes, candy and the occult imagery that fills neighborhoods every October 31.

In a powerful message titled “The Mystery of the Sorcerer & the Curse,” Cahn shared a chilling testimony from a ministry trip to Cuba, where he says an encounter with a city allegedly dominated by witchcraft became a modern-day reflection of the book of Acts.

“We are watching darkness saturating our culture, saturating the media, saturating education now, saturating government,” Cahn warned. “And it’s not simply a secularism that is neutral to faith, but it’s an irrational, intentional darkness.”

Cahn pointed to the growing popularity of Halloween as one example of America’s changing spiritual landscape.

“Do you notice something that every year it seems as Halloween if Halloween gets stronger?” he asked. “Christmas is downplayed, the significance is downplayed or diverted, but Halloween gets bigger and bigger.”

However, what Cahn experienced in Cuba would bring the reality of spiritual warfare into an entirely different perspective.

During a ministry trip to the communist nation, Cahn and several fellow believers felt compelled to visit San Germán, a city he had heard was deeply entrenched in occult practices.

There was just one problem: They couldn’t get there.

Every attempt to secure transportation fell apart. From unavailable vehicles to a taxi that unexpectedly left without them, Cahn recalled encountering obstacle after obstacle.

Then something extraordinary happened.

Without Cahn arranging anything, Christians from across San Germán began gathering for a meeting they believed he was coming to lead.

When he finally arrived, a local pastor revealed something Cahn hadn’t known.

According to the pastor’s account, a powerful sorcerer in the city allegedly drew visitors from across Cuba seeking supernatural encounters. The man reportedly claimed spiritual authority over different sections of the city and sought to expand his occult influence throughout the nation.

For Cahn, the similarities to Acts 8 were impossible to ignore.

In that biblical account, Simon the sorcerer had astonished the people of Samaria with his practices until Philip arrived, preached the gospel and demonstrated God’s power.

Now, centuries later, Cahn believed he was witnessing a spiritual confrontation similar to that.

“It is time for this darkness to end. God wants to end this darkness,” Cahn recalled declaring.

At that moment, he said, a powerful gust of wind swept through the church. His translator then proclaimed, “This day the curse is broken.”

Cahn encouraged the gathered believers to stop living in fear and stand in Christ’s authority. Church leaders united in prayer and eventually gathered on a rooftop to intercede for the city.

According to Cahn, the impact did not end when his team departed.

Months later, a Cuban pastor reportedly visited Cahn’s congregation and told him that revival had broken out in the region. People were coming to churches with objects associated with occult practices, asking that they be destroyed as they committed their lives to Jesus.

For Cahn, the experience reinforced a truth he believes the American church desperately needs to understand.

“One believer with God is more powerful than a thousand witches and sorcerers,” he declared.

As Halloween marks the end of October, and conversations about witchcraft, the occult and spiritual darkness intensify, Cahn’s testimony presents a challenge to believers: Will the church retreat in fear, or will it advance in faith?
