A Satanic invocation at an Iowa city council meeting may have shocked Christians across the country, but deliverance minister and author Daniel Adams says believers should see the controversy as something more than another disturbing cultural headline.
It should be a wake-up call to the church.
Speaking with CBN News, Adams warned that Christians cannot afford to remain spiritually passive as Satanism and other forms of spiritual darkness become increasingly visible in the public square.
“There’s definitely a demonic agenda there,” Adams said, urging Christians in Iowa to pray and “stand up against this satanic agenda that’s trying to be pushed in that state.”
Yet his first response was not outrage.
Adams pointed out that the man behind the invocation is still “a soul” who needs Jesus Christ, reminding believers that the power of God is greater than anything the enemy can unleash. As he pointed out, Christians must recognize the spiritual battle taking place while remembering who the real enemy is.

Pointing to Ephesians 6, Adams emphasized that the believer’s battle is not against flesh and blood. When darkness begins pressing into a community, he believes Christians should respond by bringing the light of Christ directly into it.
“If we see darkness trying to invade an area, I think the Christian should mobilize,” Adams said.
That means more than posting about evil. It means praying, evangelizing, meeting people’s needs and putting what Christians claim to believe into action.
“We need to put our boots on the ground,” he said.
Perhaps Adams’ strongest warning, however, was directed at the church itself.
He argued that too many Christians have become uncomfortable discussing demons, deliverance and spiritual warfare because these subjects can seem frightening, strange or difficult to understand. But ignoring spiritual warfare does not make it disappear.
“Spiritual warfare is a very, very real thing, especially in these last days,” Adams said.
He warned that if Christians and church leaders choose to remain ignorant about the spiritual battle unfolding around them, “it’s not going to look good in the long run.”
That conviction is also at the center of Adams’ book, “Delivered: Living Free from Demonic Influence,” which he says is intended to equip believers to understand deliverance and walk in the authority Christ has given them.
His ultimate hope is not that Christians become obsessed with demons.
It is that they become activated by the Holy Spirit.
Adams told CBN News that he wants to see an “end-time remnant army” rise up, not a church subdued by fear or deception, but believers operating in their God-given callings and demonstrating the power of Christ.
Scripture does not call Christians to fear darkness, nor does it give them permission to ignore it. Instead, believers are called to stand firm and carry the light of Christ directly into the places where darkness is trying to gain ground.
