In Mark 9, a man whose son had an unclean spirit came to Jesus’ disciples to cast the spirit out. However, the disciples could not do it. Eventually the man came to Jesus, and Jesus showed compassion on the boy and drove the demon out.
Jesus’ disciples talked about power and authority, but when it came down to doing anything at that time, they were helpless. The passage of Scripture draws a great parallel to today’s church, which is helpless without the power and authority of Jesus Christ.
In this devotional video, Christian author and Pastor Jamie Buckingham reiterates that “Jesus didn’t come to just give us heaven when we die. He came to give us abundant life here on earth, free from the bondage of demon possession. So ask yourself, ‘Is there some dark spirit driving me, controlling me?’ If so, come to Jesus, and He will set you free.”
