Is there something going on in your life that seems supernatural, but you are afraid or unsure if it is from the Lord? Beloved, ask Him, “Lord, if this is You, help me to perceive You in this situation.” Then beloved, take hold of what He says and just do it.

“Peter said to Him, ‘Lord, if it is You, command me to come to You on the water. And He said, ‘Come!'” (Matt. 14:28-29a, NASB 1995).

Jesus spoke the living word, and the word made flesh (John 1:14) spoke to Peter, saying, “Come.” When Peter heard that, there was such authority in it, such fullness in it that Peter knew he was hearing God’s word. What did Peter do? He seized God’s word.

One of the most supernatural encounters I ever had is when I heard the audible voice of the Lord speak to me—“Seize my Word and do not let anything else in.” I believe this is our key to navigating this life and becomes the foundation for us to “walk on water.”

Peter seized the living word that Jesus spoke to him and was able to supernaturally walk on the water. When you seize God’s Word and step out and act on it, supernatural things will happen in your life. Beloved, Jesus is still speaking today, so be listening.

But notice what happened next. Peter let something else in. When he looked at the waves, he got terrified by the wind, no longer seizing God’s supernatural word but instead being overcome by the circumstances—he sank. Often, we take a step of faith, believing we have heard from the Lord and disaster strikes, we get distracted or discouraged, and fear sets in.

Peter cried out: “’Lord, save me!’ Immediately Jesus stretched out His hand and took hold of him” (Matt. 14:30b-31a).

I love that. The merciful Jesus, the Jesus who is so tender towards us, understanding our frailness and humanity, reached out, pulled him back up and saved him. The psalmist said: “When he falls, he will not be hurled headlong, Because the Lord is the One who holds his hand” (Ps. 37:24).

The same is true for you and me. When we really love Jesus, we do our best to believe. We are constantly growing, stepping out in faith and seizing His Word. We are practicing not letting anything else in, but Father is so patient with us. While we are growing in our journey with Him, and we trip and stumble—He saves us. Beloved, He is always there for us. Do not be afraid of failure. He will lift you back up, just as he did Peter.

Jesus then challenges Peter: “’You of little faith, why did you doubt?’” (Matt. 14:31b).

Beloved, if you are struggling with fear or doubt in your life, the remedy is to have complete faith in God’s Word. When you take God’s Word and apply it to your fears and doubts, whatever they are, you will overcome them in the same way that Peter was able to walk on water—by putting your faith in God’s Word. Whatever your fears or doubts are, find a portion or portions of God’s Word that combats them and keep that out in front of you; quote it, memorize it, speak it. You must resist the devil.

The Lord has destined us to be overcomers.

I challenge you today, live the life of an overcomer. Live the life of faith. All of us must fight the fight of faith, every one of us. God is strategically causing us to have to overcome by facing the storms of life. Beloved, the only way to overcome is by our faith in God’s Word and by inviting Jesus into all aspects of our lives.

“When they got into the boat, the wind stopped” (Matt. 14:32).

Beloved, just as when Jesus got into the boat with His disciples and the storm ceased, He will do the same for you, regardless of your circumstances. When we recognize His presence in our life and seize His Word in faith, we will not only have peace in times of trouble, but we will overcome! And when we overcome, we will be in a position to do great kingdom things.

“But the people who know their God will display strength and take action” (Dan. 11:32b).

Father, right now, I release a supernatural peace and a supernatural faith in Your Word to each one who is reading this. Father God, I speak an opening of hearts that they would locate You in their “boat.” I pray that whatever their circumstances, Father, whether in the realm of the material world or the realm of their mind or spirit, that they would locate You with them right now, and that by locating You with them in the midst of their challenges, the winds would stop and Shalom would overwhelm them.

Beloved, Father and Jesus are with you right where you are, and they will be for the rest of your life. Jesus reigns, and He reigns in you and for you in your life and over your circumstances. Reach out to Him in confidence, ask Him to speak to you and to remove all fear and doubts so you can seize His Word and act upon it. Then, just like Peter, obey and “walk on water.”
