Overcoming Struggles God’s Way

Author Alex Seeley believes the kingdom of God is upside down and opposite—for everything our flesh wants to do, God always has a different route, which is to do the opposite to what your flesh wants.

When somebody hurts us, we want to take revenge, but God says turn the other cheek. When somebody steals from us, we want to get it back and have it justified, but God says actually take your coat off also and give that away. When somebody asks too much of us, He says to go an extra mile.

Alex wrote “The Opposite Life” to teach folks that to live a blessed life you’ve got to think opposite. You’ve got to think upside-down kingdom. You shouldn’t think as the world thinks, you’ve got to think the way Jesus did.

As a child, Alex remembers growing up and really wanting to follow the Lord, but there was somebody in her life who made it their mission to ridicule, belittle and bring her down. One day she snapped and experienced a righteous anger and yelled back. Her mother took her aside and reminded her she knew better as a born-again Christian, and explained the only way that person would see Jesus is if she don’t give them what they were expecting.

So Alex returned kindness to her attacker, and the situation got worse, but the Lord encouraged her to keep loving and forgiving. Years later, that person came around and is still in her life, is kind, and although they’re not a Christian they respect her faith in God.

Jesus is our example and we need to ask what He would do in a situation? He would be kind, and Jesus always rose to the top. If you want to learn how to rise to the top, you can’t do what the world does. And when we do the opposite, it may take some time, but you’ll get free of the toxicity of unforgiveness and grudge holding, and you’ll get to be an example. Believers carry an authority that they may not understand, but others are able to see that there’s something different about you.

God’s way is always a better way. That doesn’t mean you don’t have struggles or problems, but you can overcome them every time when you use godly principles instead of the world’s way.
