The End-Times Question Most Christians Never Ask: What Are You Wearing?

For decades, end-times conversations have centered on prophetic timelines, global events, Israel, the Antichrist and signs of Christ’s return.

John Bevere believes many believers are asking the wrong question.

During a recent episode of his podcast, Bevere pointed listeners to a different focus: the condition of the Bride of Christ.

“The question is, is it a big deal to us?” Bevere asked. “His bride?”

Drawing from Revelation 19, Bevere highlighted the passage declaring that the Bride of Christ “has made herself ready.”

“We’re really going to share what you need to know in order to make yourself ready,” he said.

Bevere compared Christ’s return to a wedding day, recalling his own marriage to wife Lisa more than four decades ago. He remembered watching her walk down the aisle in a beautiful white wedding dress after months of preparation.

“I’ve never seen anything so beautiful in my entire life,” he said.

The image led to a challenging question.

“Can you imagine if she showed up at that back of that church and she had on an old wrinkled dress with a bunch of dirt and grime stains on it?” Bevere asked.

“What would it have communicated to me? She wasn’t prepared for this day. She didn’t take it seriously.”

“It wasn’t a big deal to her.”

“It was a big deal to me. It’s a big deal to Jesus.”

Bevere said many Christians spend significant time studying prophetic events while neglecting the personal preparation Scripture emphasizes.

“The marriage of the Lamb has come and His wife has made herself ready,” he said, quoting Revelation 19.

He pointed listeners to the next verse, which states that the Bride is clothed in fine linen.

“The fine linen is the righteous acts or the righteous works of the saints,” Bevere said.

According to Bevere, every act of obedience contributes to the believer’s wedding garment.

“Every act of obedience is literally producing linen to construct your wedding dress,” he said.

Bevere stressed that salvation is a gift that cannot be earned.

“You can’t do a thing to save yourself. It is the gift of God,” he said.

At the same time, he emphasized that believers are called to respond to God’s grace through obedience.

“We now have the nature to be able to obey His commands,” he said.

The veteran Bible teacher pointed to Jesus’ words regarding the seven churches in Revelation.

“I know all the things you do.”

Bevere noted that Christ repeats the phrase throughout Revelation 2 and 3.

“I remember I was in prayer one day and the Spirit of God said to me, ‘Son, did you notice Jesus didn’t say to one of the seven churches, I know your intentions, or I know what you believe? He said, I know your works or the things you do.'”

For Bevere, readiness for Christ’s return is not measured by knowledge alone.

“The emphasis is our corresponding works of obedience, not merely what we believe,” he said.

He also warned that motives matter as much as actions.

“The garment is clean and bright,” Bevere said. “This speaks to our intentions.”

He contrasted genuine obedience with acts performed for recognition, influence or personal advancement.

“We’re more in ministry because we want people to listen to me and see me and hear me and I’m really into people liking me,” he said. “Now it’s not clean and bright. It’s wrinkled and soiled.”

Throughout the discussion, Bevere repeatedly returned to the importance of spiritual urgency.

“We don’t know the time period of the coming of the Lord,” he said.

Many believers assume they will become serious about God later in life, he said, but preparation for Christ’s return happens daily.

“The happy place is where I’ve got the urgency because I’m deeply in love with Him,” Bevere said. “I want to be the best I can be for Him. I want to be as fruitful as I can be for Him.”

He argued that the central issue of the end times is not identifying every prophetic headline but preparing for a coming wedding.

For that reason, Bevere challenged listeners to look inward rather than outward.

“How ready are we?” he asked.

The answer, he said, is revealed in the garment being woven through daily obedience.

“The bride has made herself ready and it was granted to her to be arrayed in fine linen,” Bevere said.

“We delight in obeying God because we love Him so deeply.”

“If you don’t love Him deeply, maybe perhaps you don’t stand in awe of Him.”

“And knowing God intimately is what gives us strength to walk in obedience to His Word, which is what prepares our wedding garment for that glorious day.”
