When The Harbinger released in 2012, it “shook readers with the prophetic messages,” L.A. Marzulli said in a recent sit-down interview with author Jonathan Cahn. The best-selling book became a cultural phenomenon, spending 100 weeks on The New York Times bestseller list and selling more than 2 million copies.
Now, its message is reborn—this time as a full-color, illustrated graphic novel designed to awaken a new audience.
Cahn explained the origin of the book’s visual transformation.

“When I wrote The Harbinger, as I was writing it… I wrote it first non-fiction. There was no story,” Cahn said. “But then the Lord really impressed upon me, said, ‘Put a story to it’… The Lord gives story. He uses imagery. He uses parables, you know, so more people will get it if you do it that way.”
The new graphic novel is already stirring excitement. “I’m, you know, like a kid in the candy store here,” Marzulli said of his interview and discussion with Cahn.
The book visually lines up the ancient biblical harbingers with their modern-day American manifestations.
“On one page, you’ll see the ancient one and the parallel image will be what manifested in America,” Cahn said. “This does what I could never do in a book.”
In a moment of levity, Marzulli joked about his reputation for tackling controversial subjects, grabbing a prop and declaring, “I wear my tin foil hat very proudly.”
Cahn responded with a smile, “I’ve never done an interview with someone with a metal hat—a tin foil hat. I am honored. Thank you. That’s never happened before. I know I’m in the right place now.”
But behind the humor lies a serious prophetic warning.
Cahn detailed how the events of 9/11 reveal a deep spiritual pattern.
“The Pentagon began—the day it began was 9/11. September 11th,” he said. “When it happened on the day of America’s strength rising to the world, God is saying, ‘I can just as easily remove that strength on the day of its founding.’”
He also noted that America’s economic rise traces back to the same date.
“Henry Hudson discovered New York City on 9/11. September 11th. Same exact day,” Cahn said. “God is saying, ‘I will cut it all down,’ you know, you—without Me… You cannot turn away from God and still have your blessings.”
Calling the new book “a prophetic tool,” Cahn added, “It’s to get the Word and it leads to salvation on top of it.”

Even longtime readers of the original book are seeing it in a new light.
“Steve Strang [Charisma Media founder] said, ‘I’m seeing all sorts of stuff that I didn’t see when I read the book.’ I looked at it, and I’m seeing stuff that I never saw, and I wrote the book!” Cahn said.
Marzulli and Cahn closed their interview by reflecting on the significance of finally meeting in person and recognizing how their work aligns in service to God’s kingdom.
“This is about turning hearts,” Cahn said. “To save America. It’s to turn back because it’s the only hope.”
