For thousands of years, one of the Bible’s most sacred objects has remained shrouded in mystery. Now, Jonathan Cahn is examining the extraordinary clues surrounding the lost Ark of the Covenant.
“What happened to the Ark of the Covenant?” Cahn asks in a recent video. “Does it exist? And if it does, where is it?”
The Ark stood at the heart of Israel’s worship. Covered in gold and placed in the Holy of Holies, it held the tablets of the law and represented God’s presence among His people. Yet following the Babylonian destruction of Jerusalem, the Ark seemingly disappeared from history.
Cahn examines theories, placing them everywhere from Ethiopia and Mount Nebo to the caves surrounding the Dead Sea. But one possibility receives particular attention: Jerusalem itself.
Ancient rabbinic tradition holds that priests concealed the Ark before the Babylonians captured Jerusalem, potentially beneath the Temple Mount. Cahn says the possibility is not unreasonable, noting that underground chambers exist beneath the ancient site.
“If it was hidden by the priest, it may right now be under the Temple Mount,” Cahn says.
Yet perhaps one of the most startling elements of Cahn’s teaching concerns the U.S. government’s interest in the biblical artifact.
Cahn points to declassified information concerning the CIA’s psychic-intelligence programs, including Sun Streak and Stargate. According to Cahn, a 1988 remote-viewing session tasked a psychic with locating the Ark.
The remote viewer reportedly perceived an object underground somewhere in the Middle East, in a dark, wet location near structures resembling domes or mosques.
Cahn, however, gives Christians a clear warning concerning the method.

“Whether this is an enemy deception because the CIA was dabbling in a realm you shouldn’t dabble in or whether there’s something to it,” Cahn says, the remarkable reality remains that the government had shown interest in locating the Ark.
The mystery also intersects with one of the most consequential questions in biblical prophecy: Could the Ark’s discovery play a role in the rebuilding of the Temple?
Cahn points out that the Second Temple operated without the Ark, meaning its absence would not necessarily prevent a future Third Temple from being constructed. Nevertheless, he believes its discovery could become a powerful catalyst.
“Imagine if the Ark of the Covenant were discovered,” Cahn says. “What a powerful thing it would be to trigger the building of the temple.”
But Cahn’s message ultimately moves beyond archaeology and prophecy.
The Ark, he says, pointed toward something infinitely greater: Jesus Christ, the blood of atonement, God’s mercy and His presence.
“What you have in God is worth more than that,” Cahn says. “What you have is a greater treasure.”
