Jonathan Cahn, the No. 1 New York Times best-selling author and prophetic voice, is sharing a rare story of what he describes as extraordinary spiritual warfare, along with a sobering warning that America may already be witnessing biblical patterns of judgment.
Speaking to his congregation about the release of the film, The Harbingers of Things to Come, Cahn said the project unfolded in ways he never planned. According to his account, Charisma Media originally approached him about producing a documentary based on The Harbinger II, which followed a series of unexpected developments that culminated in a nationwide release through Fathom Events.
“I didn’t plan it,” Cahn said. “Nobody planned it really—only God planned it.”
He also recounted several unusual incidents during filming that he believes reflected spiritual opposition. Among them were a production crew member’s daughter suffering a sudden seizure, an aggressive man confronting the team while claiming to battle angels, repeated interruptions while filming in Times Square and aggressive seabirds repeatedly swooping at the production crew during scenes filmed on an island.
“The enemy will always try to stop anything that’s of the Lord,” Cahn said. “Don’t let it surprise you when he comes like a flood.”

But the heart of Cahn’s message centered not on filmmaking but on Scripture.
Opening to Jeremiah 19, Cahn examined God’s warning to Judah regarding the Valley of Hinnom, where children were sacrificed to pagan gods. He noted that the prophet specifically identified the shedding of innocent blood as one of the nation’s greatest sins before divine judgment came upon Israel.
Drawing a parallel to modern America, Cahn argued that abortion represents a similar national sin today.
“Of all the sins that brought judgment to Israel, the killing of its own children was foremost,” he said.
Cahn then highlighted what he views as a significant prophetic timeline. He noted that New York legalized late-term abortion on Jan. 22, 2019, while the first confirmed COVID-19 case in the United States became public exactly one year later—also on Jan. 22, the anniversary of the U.S. Supreme Court’s 1973 Roe v. Wade decision legalizing abortion nationwide.
While acknowledging that he was not claiming every pandemic can be reduced to a single cause, Cahn suggested the timing reflects a biblical pattern worth considering.
“One of the judgments that Jeremiah said is going to come on Israel because of the killing of its children is that of a plague that will come on the land,” he said.
He further observed that China—the country where COVID-19 first emerged—and the United States have both played significant roles in the global abortion movement, arguing that this too carries prophetic significance.
Cahn’s warning also carries greater significance at this pivotal moment in New York’s political landscape. Following the latest elections, a growing number of socialist-backed candidates have secured key victories, which could reshape the state’s future direction on issues ranging from government policy to cultural values.
Just as Cahn called on Christians to intercede for America and seek spiritual awakening while there is still time, we see throughout Scripture, how seasons of warning were never intended merely to predict judgment—they were invitations to return to God.
Cahn’s challenge is that America’s future will ultimately depend not only on political decisions but on whether God’s people respond with repentance, prayer and renewed faithfulness.
