During a recent message, Jenny Weaver delivered what she described as a prophetic warning to believers: Before the church can speak with power, it must first learn to hear God’s voice again.

Teaching from John 18, Weaver centered her message on what she called the “prophetic ear,” arguing that many Christians are not struggling with a lack of boldness but with damaged spiritual hearing.

“Before you speak, you have to be able to hear what it is the Lord is actually saying,” Weaver said.

Pointing to Peter’s impulsive decision to cut off the ear of the high priest’s servant, Malchus, during Jesus’ arrest, Weaver said the apostle possessed the right weapon but wielded it with the wrong purpose. Rather than fighting spiritual darkness, Peter struck a person, acting on human reasoning rather than the Holy Spirit’s direction.

“You’re fighting your neighbor instead of fighting the demon that’s been coming against your neighbor,” Weaver said.

According to Weaver, that same mistake continues today whenever believers respond from emotion, offense or personal opinion rather than from the Spirit of God.

Throughout the sermon, she repeatedly emphasized that hearing God’s voice requires more than simply receiving impressions. It requires intimacy with Christ.

“My sheep hear My voice,” Weaver quoted from John 10, reminding listeners that Jesus’ followers recognize His voice because they truly know Him.

Weaver also cautioned against what she believes are growing spiritual distractions. She warned that believers can become so consumed with social media personalities, online controversies and viral voices that they lose sensitivity to the Lord’s still, small voice.

“When you lose your spiritual hearing, you will begin to follow the loudest voice,” she said.

She further warned that familiar spirits can imitate what people believe is the voice of God, even mimicking deceased loved ones or appearing spiritual while ultimately leading believers away from biblical truth. For that reason, she urged Christians to test everything against Scripture and remain grounded in a genuine relationship with Christ.

One of the most striking moments of the message came as Weaver reflected on Jesus’ response after Peter wounded Malchus.

Rather than continuing toward the cross, Jesus paused to heal the servant’s ear.

That moment reveals God’s heart.

“God cares more about you hearing than you just doing your own thing with your assignment,” she said.

She suggested that many believers have experienced “spiritual hearing loss” through church hurt, betrayal, rejection, offense or harsh words spoken over their lives. Those wounds, she argued, can distort how Christians perceive God’s voice until healing takes place.

The service concluded with an extended altar call focused on repentance, deliverance and restoration. Weaver prayed for God to remove what she described as spiritual interference so believers could once again recognize His voice with clarity.

Her central challenge was simple: Before believers seek greater prophetic influence, they must first allow God to restore their ability to hear Him accurately.

As voices continue to compete for the church’s attention, Weaver’s message serves as a reminder that discernment begins not with speaking louder—but with listening more closely to the voice of the Good Shepherd.
