The 2026 midterm elections may have revealed something far more significant than a political shift in Washington. According to Pastor Jack Hibbs, America could be witnessing another spiritual shaking, one that exposes the true condition of the church and raises serious questions about the nation’s prophetic future.

In a post-election discussion with Tony Perkins, Hibbs challenged Christians to look beyond the ballot box and consider whether the election results could be part of a much larger spiritual confrontation.

“I would not be surprised, Tony, if what’s going on right now that we have been caught up thinking that it’s election issue is actually yet another event of God shaking the nation,” Hibbs said.

Hibbs compared the moment to previous periods of national upheaval, including the COVID-19 pandemic and the Black Lives Matter movement. He suggested that the election could become another defining test for believers, revealing where their faith and allegiance truly stand.

He also questioned whether the political turmoil could be connected to the unfolding of biblical prophecy.

Pointing to Ezekiel 38, Hibbs discussed the possibility of an approaching prophetic conflict involving Persia, modern-day Iran, and Israel. He noted his understanding that America is not explicitly mentioned in end-times prophecy, raising questions about the nation’s place in future world events.

“It makes a lot of sense to me prophetically that if we are on the brink of an Ezekiel 38 battle and if we are really believing in the last days, Jesus said there’d be days like this,” Hibbs said.

The conversation also turned to America’s spiritual condition and whether the nation remains aligned with biblical principles.

Perkins, president of the Family Research Council, argued that the country’s greatest problem goes beyond political leadership.

“The issue is, are we in alignment with God so that the blessing of God and the protection of God can be upon our nation? I think the answer to that is resoundingly no,” Perkins said.

He also criticized the Trump administration’s approach to certain policies, suggesting that frustration among conservative voters contributed to the election results.

However, Hibbs’ concern extended beyond Republican losses. He specifically criticized James Talarico’s representation of Christianity while questioning whether the current political climate could expose divisions between cultural Christianity and genuine biblical faith.

Hibbs stopped short of declaring the election a fulfilled prophecy, acknowledging that he was considering the possibilities rather than delivering a prophetic word.

“I’m not a prophet. I’m just thinking out loud here,” he said.

Despite his concerns, Hibbs urged Christians not to surrender to discouragement or abandon their responsibility to remain engaged.

“I don’t have the permission from God to quit. I am not allowed to give up,” Hibbs said.

Perkins echoed that message, reminding believers that God’s purposes extend far beyond the outcomes of American elections.

“God does not structure his kingdom based upon election cycles,” Perkins said.

For Hibbs, the greater question facing the American church may not be which political party holds power, but whether believers are prepared to recognize the spiritual significance of the moment and remain faithful regardless of what comes next.
