With a historic total solar eclipse preparing to darken portions of the Northern Hemisphere, Amanda Grace says Christians should be paying attention—not simply to what is happening in the heavens, but to what is unfolding politically at the same time.
On Aug. 12, a total solar eclipse will be visible across Iceland, Greenland, the Atlantic Ocean, northern Russia, Spain and part of Portugal, according to NASA. A partial eclipse will also be visible across much of Europe, northwestern Africa, Canada and portions of the United States.
But Grace believes the timing carries significance beyond astronomy.
“So, there’s something fascinating about the timing of this Aug. 12th, 2026 solar eclipse and the rise of the socialist democratic Islam merger,” Grace says.
Grace specifically pointed to the growing prominence of democratic-socialist politicians and candidates, including New York Mayor Zohran Mamdani. Mamdani’s rise has become part of a larger debate about the ideological direction of the Democratic Party as democratic-socialist and progressive candidates continue gaining ground.
Yet one word in the political commentary particularly caught Grace’s attention: “eclipsed.”
She highlighted language describing the established Democratic Party as potentially being eclipsed by the growing influence of the Democratic Socialists of America.
“Notice the language they’re using: eclipsed,” Grace says.
The convergence is something worth watching.

However, an important distinction must be made concerning the history she discusses. The modern Democratic Socialists of America was not founded in 1901. DSA emerged decades later from the merger of the Democratic Socialist Organizing Committee and New American Movement. Grace’s reference to 1901 concerns the earlier Socialist Party movement, while the Communist Party USA traces its establishment to 1919.
Grace points to those dates—1901 and 1919—and draws a numerical connection to 9/11. She also points out that Sept. 11 marks 25 years since the terrorist attacks of 2001. This year, it will also mark the beginning of Rosh Hashanah at sundown.
That means the Aug. 12 eclipse arrives only 30 days before the anniversary and beginning of Rosh Hashanah.
Grace believes the convergence deserves spiritual attention.
“This is not an accident,” she says. “This eclipse and 9/11 are happening within 30 days of each other.”
Scripture repeatedly uses imagery involving the heavens when discussing signs, seasons and moments of extraordinary significance. Jesus Himself told His disciples in Luke 21:25 that “there will be signs in the sun, moon and stars.” Are we spiritually awake enough to recognize the times in which we live?
“The timing is fascinating, and we need to pay attention,” Grace says.
Her final encouragement is simple: “Keep the faith.”
