The Trump administration announced that it will award nearly $1.8 billion to upgrade the nation’s airports. The total awards, $1.776 billion, will be used for “runway rehabilitations, family-friendly enhancements, and safety upgrades,” the Department of Transportation announced.
“What better way to celebrate America than investing in its future. We’re ushering in the Golden Age of Transportation and rebuilding our airport infrastructure is critical to making that vision a reality. Under President Trump’s leadership, we are building an aviation system worthy of our country’s incredible history,” said Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy.

The locations seeing renovations include Denver International Airport, Boise Air Terminal/Gowen Field, Baltimore/Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport, Houston Hobby Airport, John F. Kennedy International Airport, Orlando International Airport, Oakland International Airport, and others.
FAA Administrator Bryan Bedford noted that the funding “does more than just rebuild runways and taxiways, it modernizes the travel experience for American families, ensuring our airports are safe and ready for the future.”
The FAA also launched a “Modern Skies” website detailing the Trump administration’s overhaul of air traffic control systems. “The Trump Administration is building a brand new air traffic control system from the ground up. For decades, America’s National Airspace System relied on outdated technology but those days are over,” the site reads. “This is the largest transformation of our skies since the invention of commercial flight. With a historic $12.5 billion investment, we are replacing aging systems with fast, resilient, next-generation technology—delivering a safer, stronger, and modern National Airspace System.”
The development comes as Duffy has previously pushed to restore class to air travel.
