Are we seeing biblical signs of judgment coming to life right before our eyes?

In a new report by the Daily Mail, millions of locusts overtook the skies of southern Russia, transforming the Republic of Dagestan into a scene that many witnesses say looks straight out of the pages of Scripture.

According to the Daily Mail, the massive swarm happened in the Kizlyar district, swallowing roads, darkening the sky and tearing through valuable farmland. Videos from the region show insects filling the air around moving vehicles, dramatically reducing visibility and creating hazardous conditions for motorists.

The extraordinary footage quickly ignited discussion online, where many viewers immediately connected the event to one of the Bible’s most recognizable judgments.

“Looks like one of the 10 plagues,” one social media user wrote, according to the Daily Mail. Others simply described the spectacle as “Biblical,” while another referenced Moses’ famous appeal to Pharaoh by posting, “Let my people go.”

The comparisons point back to the book of Exodus, where God sent 10 plagues upon Egypt after Pharaoh repeatedly refused to release the Israelites from slavery. Among those judgments was a devastating locust invasion that consumed the land before Pharaoh finally relented and allowed God’s people to leave Egypt.

This striking imagery has caused many Christians to reflect not only on the Exodus account but also on the prophetic judgments still to come. The footage of these locusts from Russia inevitably call to mind two pivotal moments in Scripture. The first is the Exodus, when God used plagues—including locusts—to demonstrate His sovereignty and deliver His covenant people from bondage. The second is the book of Revelation, where Scripture foretells a future season of unprecedented judgments that will come upon the earth before Christ establishes His kingdom.

Revelation describes a series of trumpet and bowl judgments that affect the land, seas, rivers and skies, while Revelation 9 specifically depicts a terrifying plague of locust-like creatures released during the sounding of the fifth trumpet.

As Jesus instructed His followers to remain watchful and spiritually prepared for His return, events that echo familiar biblical imagery can encourage believers to renew their hope in Christ, remain steadfast in their faith and remember that history is ultimately moving toward the fulfillment of God’s redemptive plan.
