The Lindsay Clancy case is far from over.
Nearly one month after her explosive murder trial ended in a mistrial, Clancy returned to a Massachusetts courtroom Tuesday. What happens next could send the case in several dramatically different directions.
According to Reuters, the Plymouth County District Attorney’s Office has yet to announce whether prosecutors will retry the 36-year-old on three counts of first-degree murder in the deaths of her children, Cora, 5; Dawson, 3; and Callan, 8 months.
Judge William Sullivan has indicated that if prosecutors move forward with another trial, he would ideally like it held before the end of the year.
But another first-degree murder trial is hardly the only option on the table.

Reuters reports prosecutors could pursue lesser second-degree murder charges or potentially reach a plea agreement with Clancy’s defense. Second-degree charges could also open the door for Clancy to waive a jury and have her case heard before a judge.
Meanwhile, defense attorney Kevin Reddington is fighting to stop another trial before it begins. Clancy’s attorneys are asking Sullivan to find her not guilty and argue that another prosecution could violate her constitutional protection against double jeopardy.
After six weeks of testimony produced no verdict, the case has entered a new, potentially decisive chapter.
