Earlier Friday, President Trump told reporters that Zacharia has “been treated, I would say pretty nastily, and I said to Katie just two minutes ago, I said, Katie, you know, you don’t have to do this if you don’t want.” He said Zacharia responded by saying the role is tougher than anticipated, to which Trump said, “Welcome to the world of Trump.” He added that he left the decision up to Zacharia.
“The news has been so nasty to her,” Trump added, referring to the press. “I said, to her, ‘Honestly if I were you, I’d reconsider. You think about it. But I would reconsider. You got a beautiful husband and family.’ I met the family yesterday. Beautiful kids. It’s like from a picture postcard. And I said, ‘You should reconsider. Because you don’t want to go through this.’”
President Trump announced Zacharia’s first day over the weekend. “I am pleased to announce that Katie Zacharia will be beginning her term as Press Secretary tomorrow, Columbus Day, and will be doing an introductory News Conference on Tuesday at 9:30 A.M. from the Press Briefing Room in the White House,” he wrote on Truth Social. “Katie has been with me, in spirit, from the very beginning, and will do a fantastic job!”
