Are we about to see the rise of lockdowns?

A report by the Daily Mail noted that the International Energy Agency (IEA) provided guidelines on “Sheltering From Oil Shocks,” which they called an “emergency playbook” that could be part of preparing for “lockdown 2.0” if fuel shortages were to occur.

The IEA’s report outlined a multi-step plan that nations could follow if they find their oil supply growing short. Here are a few of their suggestions for stretching oil supplies if needed.

  • Use public transportation instead of personal vehicles.
  • Use license plate identification to alter days when certain vehicles are allowed to enter large cities.
  • Carpool with others.
  • Create “fuel-efficient” practices.
  • Walk and use a bicycle for transportation.
  • Use eco-friendly delivery and freight trucks.
  • Divert the use of liquid petroleum away from automobiles.
  • More work from home days.
  • Reduce speed limits on the highway.
  • Cut household energy use and prepare for less fuel for cooking purposes.
  • Reduce the number of business-related flights.

The Daily Mail report also noted that these restrictions were seen by some as a parallel to the 2020 worldwide shutdowns, with the sentiment, “We’re not doing this again.”

As these proposals surface under the banner of “emergency preparedness,” they echo something deeper than simple policy—they reveal a growing global mindset willing to regulate movement, limit resources and reshape daily life in the name of crisis management.

Scripture warns that a time will come when control over buying, selling and movement will be centralized under a global system (Rev. 13:16–17). While these measures may be framed as temporary solutions to fuel shortages, they raise a sobering question: are we witnessing early patterns of a world being conditioned to accept tighter control in exchange for stability?

What began in past crises as a “short-term necessity” could be laying the groundwork for something far more permanent.

Jesus told us to watch and be ready, recognizing the signs of the times (Matt. 24:42). As nations explore coordinated restrictions and lifestyle mandates, the church must remain spiritually awake, anchored in truth and unshaken by the shifting systems of man. The stage is being set for a future one-world structure, and now is the hour to deepen our faith, strengthen our resolve and boldly proclaim the lordship of Jesus Christ.
