Egypt’s ancient pyramids have long inspired debate over how one of the world’s earliest civilizations achieved such remarkable precision. Now, newly uncovered tombs along the Nile are adding another chapter to that discussion.

According to the Daily Mail, archaeologists excavating two 5,000-year-old tombs at Jabal al-Tayr in Egypt’s Minya Governorate uncovered architectural features that appear to predate and foreshadow techniques later used in Egypt’s pyramids.

The structures featured walls that were “thicker at the bottom and gradually narrowed toward the top,” a design researchers say provided greater structural stability. Archaeologists also uncovered evidence of sophisticated stone-cutting methods, oxidation marks left during construction and massive wooden supports built into the tombs.

The discovery “could rewrite ancient Egyptian history by suggesting that sophisticated engineering techniques linked to pyramid construction emerged earlier and spread more widely across the country than previously believed.”

Dr. Hisham El-Leithy, secretary general of Egypt’s Supreme Council of Antiquities, said one of the tombs shares similarities with the burial of King Den, one of Egypt’s earliest rulers. Tourism and Antiquities Minister Sherif Fathy said the discoveries could help researchers better understand how Egyptian burial architecture evolved over time.

Looking at the Discovery Through Genesis 6

While archaeologists continue tracing the development of ancient engineering through excavation and historical analysis, author and filmmaker L.A. Marzulli encourages Christians to consider another framework—one rooted in Scripture.

For decades, Marzulli has argued that Genesis 6 records a real historical event in which fallen angels, identified with the “sons of God,” imparted forbidden knowledge to mankind before the Flood. Drawing from Genesis 6:1-4 and the Book of Enoch, he teaches that this knowledge included metallurgy, astronomy, engineering and other technologies that dramatically accelerated the ancient world.

Rather than attributing humanity’s earliest engineering marvels to extraterrestrials or unexplained mysteries, Marzulli contends the Bible already provides a coherent explanation. In his view, the Genesis 6 account explains why advanced knowledge appears so early in human history and why civilizations such as ancient Egypt continue to astonish archaeologists thousands of years later.

A Biblical Perspective That Deserves Consideration

Mainstream reporting on discoveries like the Jabal al-Tayr tombs understandably focuses on archaeology and engineering. Questions about the biblical account of Genesis 6 or the possibility of fallen-angel technology are rarely part of that conversation.

Marzulli has spent years arguing that Christians should not shy away from those discussions. Instead, he encourages believers to view archaeological discoveries through the lens of Scripture, maintaining that the Bible provides historical context that secular explanations often overlook.
