Children’s entertainer Ms. Rachel has once again stepped into the center of a political firestorm, this time after visiting families connected to the Delaney Hall immigration detention facility in Newark, New Jersey, and publicly criticizing immigration enforcement policies she says are harming children.

According to Fox News Digital, Rachel Accurso, known to most as “Ms. Rachel,” visited the facility and later shared accounts of children whose parents were being held in detention. She questioned current immigration policies, asking, “Why are we terrorizing children?” and argued that family separations are causing deep emotional trauma.

In a video shared by Libs of TikTok, Accurso can be seen singing with a group of adults and children outside of the detention center.

“I’ll sing from here, and you sing from there. Together we’ll sing down the walls everywhere,” the group sang.

Breitbart News reported that Accurso’s visit occurred just days after protests and clashes outside Delaney Hall drew national attention. The outlet reported that demonstrators opposed to ICE operations gathered outside the facility and that some protesters were accused of physically confronting law enforcement officers. One of the rioters, Brendan John Geier, reportedly bit a police officer in the middle of the clash and is now being accused of sharing child pornography.

Breitbart also noted that ICE has recently arrested illegal immigrants in New Jersey with convictions involving manslaughter, sexual assault and domestic violence.

The Department of Homeland Security pushed back strongly against Accurso’s characterization of events. According to Fox News, DHS officials stated that ICE does not separate families and that parents facing removal are given options regarding their children, including departing together or arranging for a designated caregiver. The agency also emphasized its efforts to combat human trafficking and protect vulnerable migrant children.

Accurso previously spoke to NBC, where she stated that her goal was to see the Dilley Immigration Processing Center in Texas permanently closed.
