While talk about robots taking over the world has long been a movie trope for decades, the reality of robots as part of our daily lives just got a whole lot closer.
This is where robotics company 1X’s new Neo humanoid robot comes into play. As Engadget reports, these $20,000 humanoid robots are now available for pre-sale to do household chores. As the article notes, “Users will be able to control NEO and have it accomplish tasks around the house with the click of a button or a verbal command. It will come with the ability to do basic tasks autonomously when it starts shipping next year, including opening doors, fetching items and turning the lights on or off.”

Creepy? I’d say so. Not only will Neo be able to perform these tasks, but those who want these home robots to do more extravagant tasks must be “comfortable with the idea of a human teleoperator controlling the robot remotely and seeing inside their homes,” as Engadget writes.

Not only are the robots essentially being taught to do household chores on their own, but having the requirement of allowing a remote operator inside your home means literally letting strangers into all your business. Quite possibly, all of this sounds much like that of the beast system. How much autonomy will these robots have once they advance? What about those who are gaining access to the homes of civilians? Could this be capitalized and used against those who disagree with the elite?
