Guys who have been touched and challenged by the message of the faith-based police drama, Courageous, to become the godly influence in their home that God intended, have an opportunity to share it with others in a low-key way, starting tomorrow.

The hit movie from the makers of Fireproof releases on DVD, providing a great opportunity for men to host a small group viewing or invite non-Christians friends who may have felt uncomfortable going to see it in the theaters to watch together at home.

The makers at Sherwood Pictures—based at Sherwood Baptist Church in Albany, Ga.—have reported hundreds of testimonies of husbands and fathers who have been inspired to turn their lives over to God in a new way through the movie.

Among those who have written to the producers is Aimee, who told them: “I want to thank you for what you have done to my marriage. My husband is a police officer, so the movie particularly struck close to home. Not only has he stepped up to be what God intended him to be, he has given up addictions and vices that were crippling and shattering our marriage and the relationship he had with our kids.”

Many have already embraced the challenge of the movie and echoed the pledge made by the lead characters in the film to become godly leaders. Rusty Martin, Sr., a member of the cast, told The Garner News in North Carolina of the “powerful” moment when he led a group of men at Harvest Assembly of God in Virginia Beach, Va., in reciting the resolution in front of their families, after they completed a Courageous-themed Bible study.

The DVD comes with some great extras in an Exclusive Collector’s Edition available only through Christian retailers. The set includes more than an hour of extra content not available in the general market version and retails for $24.99.

Among the extras in the Exclusive Collector’s Edition will be the music video for Castings Crowns’ soundtrack song, “Courageous” and featurettes on the history of Sherwood Pictures and members of the volunteer production team. There are also episodes titled A Church of Prayer and The Importance of Fathers.

Other features include a making-of documentary, deleted scenes and bloopers, and a commentary by Sherwood Pictures co-founders and filmmaking brothers Alex and Stephen Kendrick.

“We are very excited about Courageous—its box office, and even more importantly, its ministry impact,” said Randy Davis, vice president of sales and marketing at Provident-Integrity Distribution. “We believe that families across our country, and around the world, will be positively affected by this film.”
