Former world heavyweight champion Andy Ruiz Jr. publicly declared his decision to follow Jesus Christ as he was baptized alongside his son.
Heart Revolution Church shared footage of the baptism on Instagram, celebrating the father and son’s public profession of faith.
“Today was a special day as Pastor TJ had the honor of baptizing boxer Andy Ruiz and his son,” the church wrote.
The church described the baptisms as “a powerful moment of faith as they publicly declared their decision to follow Jesus.”
Ruiz also spoke about the significance of the moment, calling it “a very special day” for himself, his children and his entire family.
“I’m just taking a big step into this newborn and washing down all my sins away and becoming something new and something great and something that my kids get to see,” Ruiz said in the video.
The boxer thanked Pastor TJ, Heart Revolution Church and everyone who attended to support his family.
“I just can’t wait for this new start, for this new journey, and for this new chapter in my life,” Ruiz said.

Ruiz became the first boxer of Mexican heritage to win a world heavyweight championship when he defeated Anthony Joshua in 2019. Although he later lost the titles in their rematch, Ruiz has spoken openly about turning to God during the depression and personal struggles that followed, as reported by Movieguide®.
