After Devastating UFC Injury, Conor McGregor Publicly Doubles Down on His Faith in Jesus Christ

Conor McGregor’s long-awaited return to the UFC lasted just over one minute Saturday night before a devastating knee injury brought the fight to an abrupt end. Hours later, the former two-division champion shifted the conversation away from the Octagon and toward Jesus Christ.

McGregor suffered what UFC officials believe is a torn ACL during the opening round of his rematch with Max Holloway at UFC 329 in Las Vegas. The injury occurred after he landed awkwardly while throwing a kick, forcing the referee to stop the contest after just 69 seconds.

But instead of allowing disappointment to define the night, McGregor’s next public message pointed to something far greater.

A declaration of historic Christian faith

In the aftermath of the injury, McGregor posted the full text of the Nicene Creed on X, one of Christianity’s oldest and most enduring declarations of faith.

The creed begins:

“I believe in one God, the Father Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth, of all things visible and invisible.”

It continues by declaring Jesus Christ as “the Only Begotten Son of God,” affirming His death on the cross, resurrection, ascension into heaven and promised return.

The post concludes:

“I look forward to the resurrection of the dead and the life of the world to come. Amen.”

For more than 1,600 years, Christians across Roman Catholic, Eastern Orthodox and many Protestant traditions have confessed the Nicene Creed as a foundational summary of biblical belief.

Faith remains the focus

McGregor continued pointing followers to Christ on Monday with another public declaration of faith, this time on Instagram.

“My faith is unconditional and I am thankful I get to prove it!” he wrote.

The former UFC champion also emphasized that his commitment to Christ has brought lasting change to his life.

“My lifestyle changes are permanent and not just until.”

While preparing for surgery and rehabilitation, McGregor expressed confidence that God would carry him through the recovery process.

“Surgery. Prehab. Return to martial arts practice. Go again. Final fight of the contract. Please God!”

He closed the post with a prayer of trust:

“I trust in You Lord! Show me Your way. Thank You God.”

The second public declaration reinforced that his profession of faith was not limited to the emotional aftermath of the injury, but remained the message he chose to share as he began facing the road to recovery.

A witness seen around the world

Few athletes possess McGregor’s global reach. With millions of followers across social media and one of the most recognizable names in combat sports, virtually anything he shares is seen by an enormous audience.

That makes the timing of these posts especially noteworthy.

Rather than posting frustration, assigning blame or dwelling on the injury, McGregor repeatedly chose to publicly proclaim the central truths of the Christian faith and his trust in Jesus Christ.

History shows that some of the most powerful testimonies emerge not during moments of triumph but in seasons of suffering. While no one knows how God may use a single public confession of faith, Scripture reminds us that His Word never returns empty. When someone with McGregor’s platform openly points people toward Jesus Christ, countless people around the world are exposed to the Gospel’s central message.

In a culture searching for hope in success, wealth and fame, McGregor’s decision to publicly proclaim his faith serves as a reminder that even the world’s biggest stars ultimately face the same questions every person must answer.

The 38-year-old has not announced when—or if—he will return to the Octagon as he awaits further evaluation of his knee injury. Yet regardless of what comes next in his fighting career, his most widely remembered message from this difficult chapter may not be about the injury itself, but about the Savior he publicly proclaimed before millions.
