The enemy rarely walks through the front door and demands everything at once.
Sometimes, he just asks for a room.
That was the sobering warning from Pastor Rich Wilkerson Jr. during his message at Motion Conference 2026, where he challenged thousands of young people to stop tolerating compromises that can quietly take hold in their lives.
Preaching from Judges 1 and 2, Wilkerson focused on Israel’s failure to completely drive the Canaanites out of the land God had given them. Instead, they learned to live alongside what God had commanded them to remove.
Wilkerson’s message was simple: Don’t live with it.
“This is how compromise works,” Wilkerson told the crowd. “Compromise is repetitive. Compromise happens over and over and over again. And it always starts small and it only gets bigger.”
Then came the question that cut straight to the heart of his warning: “How do you ruin your life? One compromise at a time.”
Wilkerson warned that Christians cannot afford to become spiritually asleep to the battle happening around them. While some people become consumed with seeing demons behind everything, he said another danger exists within the body of Christ: believers becoming oblivious to spiritual warfare altogether.
“We must wake up,” Wilkerson said.
Using the imagery of an exterminator hiding poison inside something attractive to a rat, Wilkerson explained how temptation often works. The bait itself appears desirable, but the destruction is hidden inside.
The enemy, he argued, does not approach someone announcing his intention to destroy their future. Instead, temptation can appeal to legitimate desires for love, acceptance, intimacy or relief while offering destructive substitutes.
“He doesn’t just start by destroying you overnight,” Wilkerson said. “He lies through compromise, and it’s over time.”
Connecting his warning to Jesus’ description of the thief who comes to steal, kill and destroy, Wilkerson emphasized the order.
Destruction may not be the first move.

“He doesn’t ever come in and say, ‘Give me your whole house,’” Wilkerson said. Instead, he illustrated compromise as allowing the enemy to occupy just one room. Eventually, what was tolerated begins taking over more territory until the enemy has the “deed to your house.”
But Wilkerson’s message wasn’t one of surrendering to bondage. It was a call to confront it, fight it and defeat it.
“You cannot change that which you do not confront,” he said, pointing listeners toward repentance, confession and personal responsibility. Later, he reminded the crowd of James’ command to resist the devil, stressing that spiritual warfare also requires discipline.
“You don’t need deliverance. You need discipline,” Wilkerson said. “You don’t have a demon. You make bad decisions.”
Yet the final word was not about the devil.
It was about Jesus.
Wilkerson reminded the crowd that Scripture is filled with imperfect people whom God still used, declaring, “If you’re breathing, God is still working.”
His closing encouragement was equally clear: Falling isn’t failing. The righteous may fall, but they get back up.
The warning for believers is urgent: Stop making peace with what God has called you to confront. Stop giving compromise another room.
Don’t live with it. Live with Him.
